Day 1A of the PokerStars Red Dragon has wrapped up at Cove Manila, Okada Manila, with a record-breaking 155 entries recorded for the opening flight, comfortably eclipsing last year's turnout. Of those, 23 players from Day 1A survived to advance to Day 2 on Sunday, all locking up a min-cash.

Leading the way is Indonesia's Fendy Kosasih, who bagged the top stack of 421,000. The Philippines' Ricardo Torres (351,000) and Edilberto Gopez (336,500) round out the top three.

The Day's Action

The flight saw plenty of drama from the get-go. Francisco Tamayo was sent to the rail in brutal fashion when his pocket jacks ran into Avinash Shekhar's ace-king; Shekhar turned two pair and then rivered a full house to complete the knockout. Gopez also found himself in a cooler spot, his pocket kings surviving a four-bet jam from Eundong Noh's pocket jacks to hold up clean through the runout.

Elsewhere, Thomas Lee turned a full house with king-queen to bust Jiaxian Ye in a big three-bet pot, while Torres rivered a straight with queen-jack to send Myagmardorj Batsukh's hand into the muck in an earlier level.

Also in the field was Ireland's Eoghan MacGabhann, fresh off a runner-up finish in the Manila Megastack 23 Main Event, and reigning Red Dragon champion Justin Ong, who took his seat after busting the APPT National in 46th place, looking to defend the title he won for PHP 4,680,585 (~USD 82,099) last year.

Joris Michl flopped top set with pocket jacks but was up against an opponent who had flopped a flush holding seven-five of spades. Unable to make the full house he needed, Michl was eliminated as the Day 1A bubble boy.

Red Dragon Continues Towards the Money; APPT National Final Table Live

Registration for Day 1A of the PokerStars Red Dragon has officially wrapped up with a field of 155 entries. The flight will continue to play down to the final 23 survivors, all of whom will secure a minimum cash and their spot in Day 2. Currently, 33 remain in the field.

While play continues, live hand reporting for Day 1A has hit a brief pause, though chip counts and bubble updates will continue as the flight nears its conclusion.

A couple of hands later, Jie Pan limped from under the gun before facing an 11,500 raise from Christopher Mateo. Button Michl made the call, and Pan let his hand go.

Rudy Edenata opened to 3,000 from under the gun and big blind Mike Takayama defended, only to check-fold the K♠ T♦ 6♠ flop when Edenata bet 2,000.

Hayashi shoved his 25,000 stack on the next hand. Marvin Dela Cruz, not realising the action, went to bet 3,500 which was committed to the pot, with folds around the table.

Takayama then shoved his 24,500 from the button and collected the blinds, before Andrew Rodgers shoved 19,000 from early position and found no customers.

PokerStars Red Dragon Day 1A Kicks Off with PHP 15 Million Guaranteed

The action at APPT Manila 2026 continues today with the launch of the PokerStars Red Dragon, one of the most prestigious stops on the calendar. The PHP 50,000 (~USD 810) buy-in event carries a PHP 15,000,000 (~USD 245,000) guaranteed prize pool, with Day 1A getting underway at 12:00 PM local time at Cove Manila inside Okada Manila.

Players will start with a 100,000 stack and play through 10 levels before late registration closes at 7:25 PM local time, with the flight playing down to the money.

Last year's edition saw Justin Ong capture the Red Dragon title for PHP 4,680,585 (~USD 81,605), one of two Shard Trophy titles he claimed at the venue in 2025. With Ong among the strong contingent of past champions expected to feature throughout the series, this year's Red Dragon looks poised to be another highlight of APPT Manila 2026.
