Shaoshua Li Bags the Lead in Flight A of APPT National

Shaoshuai Li

The first of three opening flights of the APPT National has wrapped up at Paradise City Resort, with 87 players taking their shot at the KRW 1,200,000 event. By the day's end, just 13 players managaged secure a bag into Day 2. Sitting atop the leaderboard is Shaoshuai Li of China, who finished with 416,000 in chips. He is followed closely by Takahiro Nagano with 381,000, while Tae Hoon Han rounds out the top three with 348,000.

Li is a prolific grinder on the Asian tournament circuit, with more than $300,000 in recorded live tournament earnings and a resume that includes a Poker Dream Main Event title worth $93,285, as well as deep runs in Triton One and APPT events. He'll now have a chance to add another major result to that resume after building the biggest stack of the opening flight.

Flight A Highlights

The early stages saw Maxim Lykov emerge as the first major force, with the Russian quickly building a six-figure stack after winning a sizeable five-way pot by making a flush. However, after building to his stack to about 300,000 at one point for a solid chip lead, Lykov lost all his momentum and was ultimately eliminated toward the end the day.

Li ascent to the top came after he had already busted his first bullet after losing with pocket threes against Vladimir Munits' pocket sevens. Li's second bullet went much smoother, with a key pot coming in the latter part of the day when Jingxuan Zhu open-shoved for nearly 20 big blinds with pocket fours. Li called with ace-king and managed to make Broadway to send Zhu to the rail.

The feeling in the room became increasingly tense as players battled for the 13 available Day 2 spots, with play notably slowing down as the bubble approached. Tae Hoon Han picked up pocket kings and shoved over a three-bet against Chien Chih Weng, who had a tough decision with pocket jacks. Weng ultimately called and was unable to improve to be eliminated two spots short of a bag.

The stone bubble saw Chao Ting Cheng shove preflop with ace-jack and get called by Kevin Hasler, who woke up with a dominating ace-king. The board paired Hasler's king to score the knockout and leave the remaining 13 players guaranteed a Day 2 berth.

There are still two more opportunities to qualify for Day 2. Flight B gets underway on Tuesday, September 8 at 11 a.m., followed by Flight C at 6:30 p.m.

Flight B will follow the same structure as Flight A, with players starting with 30,000 chips and playing 40-minute levels, beginning at 100/200 with a 200 big-blind ante. Flight C will feature the same starting stack and blind structure but will switch to a turbo format with 20-minute levels.

Ma check-called a 7,500 bet from Long on the 7♣ 9♣ Q♠ flop and then both players checked on the 9♦ turn.

Action checked to Zhu and he bet 10,500 on the 8♣ 7♠ 2♦ flop. Nagano and Lykov called, but Zhao let her hand go.

Lykov checked again and Zhu announced he was all in for a bit over 30,000 total. Both Nagano and Lykov quickly folded - awarding the large pot to Zhu.

Suzuki Ayaka raised to 1,600 from early position and was called by cutoff Tae Hoon Han, button Seiji Haishi plus blinds Lykov and Takahiro Sui.

The dealer fanned the Q♥ J♦ 9♥ flop and both blinds checked before Ayaka continued for 3,000. Han and Haishi folded, as well as Sui, with only Lykov sticking around.

APPT National Flight A Underway at 11:00 AM

Flight A of the APPT National gets underway at 11:00 AM at Paradise City Incheon, the biggest guaranteed event on the APPT Korea 2026 schedule ahead of the Main Event itself.

The KRW 1,200,000 buy-in tournament carries a KRW 250,000,000 guarantee, with players receiving 30,000 starting stacks and 60-minute levels throughout the opening flights.

Registration for Flight A remains open until 18:40 local time today, with Flight B following tomorrow at 11:00 and a turbo Flight C at 18:30.

Players are permitted to enter more than one flight in an attempt to qualify for Day 2, with those who bag from multiple flights bringing their largest stack forward and receiving a min-cash for any additional qualifying stacks.

Day 2 takes place on Wednesday, September 9, with the final day on September 10. A shot clock will be implemented from the start of Day 2, with each player receiving four 30-second time bank extensions, plus an additional four on the final table.

Upon reaching the final table, the tournament transitions from a timed level structure to a hands-per-level format.

Adding further incentive, the top five finishers will each receive a KRW 1,800,000 APPT Korea Main Event seat as part of the prize pool.
