John Niko Costiniano Tops The Survivors Of Day 1B

Level 15: 2,000 / 4,000 ante: 4,000
John Niko Costiniano

From the moment Day 1B kicked off, it was clear the turnout would top the opening flight. By the close of registration, 320 players had coughed up the ₱80,000 buy in. Once again, Korea and the Philippines brought the largest contingents, and this time joined by a fresh wave of Vietnamese players who had landed just the night before. By the end of the 15 levels of regulation play, only 51 survived led by local pro John Niko Costiniano with a stack of 500,000 (125 bb).

"I had a big spot with kings and my opponent had top pair flush draw going to the river and the hand just played itself and made me 500k in chips."

Also making the cut in this heat was the newly crowned Justin Ong, champion of the Pokerstars Red Dragon event. Ong's hot run continued, knocking out players to become one of the leaders well before registration closed. He ended the day with 301,000 (75 bb).

Among the many notables in the field were three APPT Main Event champions namely Xiong Cheng (2024 APPT Manila Main Event), Hai Ha Tran (2025 APPT Cambodia Main Event) and Yuanning Wu (2023 APPT Manila Main Event). By bagging time, only Wu was still in contention with 156,000 (39 bb) bagged.

For those that missed the mark or have yet to make their appearance, the 2025 APPT Manila Main Event will resume on Saturday, August 2 with the last two flights on deck at Cove Manila inside the world class Okada Manila. Day 1C starts at 12pm followed by Day 1D (Turbo) at 7pm.

So far, a total of 91 players have advanced to Day 2. For Costiniano, he looks forward to that moment,

"My plan for Day 2 is to be totally dynamic on my play style. I do not plan to force anything my way because see a lot of really good players in this field and I am just excited to play some great poker!"

Somashekhar Sanampuri On A Tear

Level 11: 1,000 / 1,500 ante: 1,500
Somashekhar Sanampuri

Somashekhar Sanampuri drove the action to rake in sizable back to back pots. The first hand had him three-bet preflop from cutoff and Sukwang Ko called from under the gun. Sanampuri barreled the flop 6 Q K and the turn 6 5000 and 10,000, both called by Ko who tried to steal on the river A with a lead out bet of 40,000. Sanampuri called and Ko quickly mucked.

Sanampuri hadn't finished fixing his chips yet when he tossed in a raise that was called by button Akihiko Nishimura and big blind Ko. Sanampuri continued at the flop 5 Q K for 8000 and only Ko stuck around to see the turn 7 . Ko checked again, Sanampuri jammed with a stack more than double of Ko's who opted to fold.

Dmitrii Belikov's Aces Hold To Dust One

Level 3: 100 / 300 ante: 300

With a raise before her, Eden Smith liked her 3 5 hole cards and re-raised 2700 from the button position. Seeing the heavy action before him, big blind Dmitrii Belikov tanked on what to do with A A on hand then four-bet to 6700. This was enough for Sembrano to step aside while Smith defended.

When the flop landed 6 3 7 , more chips went in starting with a bet of 5000 from Belikov, Smith jammed her drawing hand, and was snap-called.

Belikov was ahead with aces but needed to dodge 14 outs and did as the turn and river came J K .

Moses Saquing

Moses Saquing raised then defended his 600 bet by calling Anna Albitskaia's 1200 re-raise. Nichols Manalo also joined in for a three-way to the flop 5 2 Q . Albitskaia seemed to tame the aggression by checking, Saquing used it to bet 1500, Manalo folded, then Albitskaia raised Saquing again, this time to 3000. Saquing called.

Same action on the turn K and river 2 with Saguing taking the reins for 6000 then shoving 16,300. Albitskaia check-called both then showed A A . Saquing flipped open A 4 flush to ship a bit more than double.

Level 2: 100 / 200 ante: 200
Ducksang Cho

Following limp by John Beveridge, Ducksang Cho raises 500. Next to act Beng Ker who just busted the defending champion made it 1200 to continue. Beveridge called while Cho made it cost more to see flop with a three-bet of 2900. Only Ker called.

At the flop T 4 4 , Cho jumped out for 6000 and that did the job as he dragged in a well earned pot.

Beng Ker Takes Control On The Turn

Level 1: 100 / 100 ante: 100

Another action packed hand opened with Beng Ker making it 300, called by two players before Ducksang Cho defended his big blind with a re-raise of 1100. Everyone called for another four-way battle.

At the flop 5 J J , Cho continued for 1700, called only by Ker and Emmanuel Derecho to go to fourth stree 2 . Unrelenting, Cho slid out 2700, and this time was met with a 10,000 raise from Ker. Derecho let it go while Cho called.

No slowing down on the river 2 with Ker firing 18,000 which was enough to secure the pot uncontested.

First Bust Of The Day

Level 1: 100 / 100 ante: 100

Not even halfway through the first level and Yusuko Kuroishi already lost all of his chips.. albeit a cooler. The hand opened with Kuroishi dealt A 7 and raised to 300. Two players called, then big blind Ruben Gavino three-bet 1500 with A Q . Action swung back around and everyone called.

Four-way to the flop A 7 5 was checked by all then the Q turn ignited action with a 2000 bet from Gavino that Kuroishi and Darius Nass called as one folded. The river 8 brought a larger 7500 from Gavino, Kuroishi shoved 25,800, Nass got out of the way and Gavino called with a covering stack and showed top two to deliver the first bust of the day.
