APPT Manila Championship (165,000 PHP)

After the storm in the city subsided, so did the action settle down at Okada Manila where Flight B of the APPT Manila Championship concluded for the day. 194 entries made the buy-in of PHP 165,000 (~US$ 2,850) to compete for their share of the PHP 55,000,000 (~US$ 960,850) guaranteed prize pool. 80 players were still on their seats to bag their chips at the end of 11 levels and nearly 12 hours of poker. Those 80 players will be back tomorrow to compete again in the Day 2 leg and will be joined by the 59 players who advanced from Flight A.

Among the 80 survivors of Flight B, it was Kim Youngkim of South Korea who bagged the largest stack with 452,500 chips. Moses Saquing of the Philippines was at a distant second with a very healthy 295,000. Rounding up the top three chip leaders is American John Joseph Panish who bagged 277,500 to carry onto Day 2.

Joseph Sanghyon Cheong raised to 3,500 from under the gun and called the 14,000 re-raise of seatmate Jun Lai from UTG+1. Both players were shown a flop of J♦ 8♥ 5♦. Cheong checked to Lai, who fired 40,000 into the pot. Cheong counted of his chips and pushed all-in for 89,000. Lai folded, showing a pair of aces to the table while muttering "I am chicken."

Jonathan Chetty pushed his last 46,000 all-in from the button and Daniel Neilson made the call from the big blind.

Neislon dominated from the start and had Chetty drawing dead by the turn. The ace on the river was an exclamation point given by the poker gods to add more hurt and embarassment to Chetty's bust out.

Jonathan Chetty made a min-raise with Shin Jae Wook calling the 3,000 from the button. Both players are shown a flop of A♣ T♣ 9♥. Chetty check-raised the 5,000 bet of Wook to 15,500. Wook made the call to see an 8♣ on the turn. Chetty bet 30,000 and Wook made the call with his remaining 27,300.

Chetty flipped over A♥ 7♥ for top pair and a straight draw, but Wook's Q♥ J♥ was the nut straight that wouldn't be beat. The 6♥ river was of no consequence even if it completed a straight for Chetty.

Kim Kiyoung raised to 3,500 from under the gun and got called by hi-jack Yohwan Lim, small blind Yuanning Wu and big blind Mike Takayama. The four players were treated to a 8♠ Q♦ 9♦ flop. Action was checked to Kiyoung who fired a 5,500 c-bet. Yohwan Lim made the call along with Yuanning Wu to see a T♣ turn. All three checked to see the 4♠ on the river. Action was checked to Kiyoung who fired a modest 11,000 with only Wu as the lone caller. Kiyoung turned over 8♦ 8♣ for a set of eights. Wu mucked.

Ting-Yi Tsai min-raised from the hi-jack and then pushed all-in for 41,900 after Ashley De Guzman four-bet to 12,000. De Guzman made the call and both players went to a heads-up showdown.

Yuanning Wu raised to 2,500 from under the gun and was raised to 7,500 by Kim Kiyoung at the hi-jack. Wu matched the bet to see a flop of 4♣ 6♠ 9♦. Wu check-called the 6,000 bet of Kiyoung to see a J♦ turn. Both players checked to get a free A♣ on the river. Wu checked and folded when Kiyoung bet out 25,000 into the pot.

Yuanning Wu made the 2,400 min-raise from under the gun and got called by Juyeol Lee at the button and Wai Kit Jason Lau at the big blind. The three players were shown a flop of 5♣ 2♣ 4♣. Action was checked to Wu who bet 2,200. Lee and Lau called to see an 8♦ turn. All players checked to reaech a 4♠ on the river. Lau bet out 22,200 with Yuanning the only one to call. Lau peeled over 4♥ 4♦ for quads. Yuanning just said "wow" and mucked.

Moses Saquing at UTG and seatmate Youngjun Lee at UTG+1 were flirting with raises until they finally agreed to put up 21,000 each to see a flop of 3♠ 5♠ K♣ . Saquing bet out 5,500 and was called by Lee to see a J♦ on the turn. Saquing slowed down with a check and called the 13,000 bet by Lee to see a 4♥ on the river. Saquing checked in the hopes that Lee would bet, but Lee checked behind for a show-cards moment. Saquing turned over K♥ K♦ for a set of kings. Lee chucked his cards to the muck.

Juyeol Lee made a min-raise from under the gun and called the 24,200 all-in of Wayne Lau from the next seat.

Lau was ahead the entire time and the nine on the river improved his hand to a full house to secure the much-needed double up.

Ashley De Guzman raised 2,700 from UTG+2 and was called by Ting-Yi Tsai at the small blind and Yan Li from the big blind. The three players were unwrapped a flop of 2♠ Q♥ A♠. Action was checked to De Guzman who bet a modest 2,500. Tsai folded but Yan Li stayed on to see a J♥ turn. Li check-called a 5,500 second barrel from De Guzman to see a Q♦ on the river. Yan Li checked. De Guzman counted off 22,000 to put in the middle and Li made the call. De Guzman flipped over A♦ Q♣ for a full house queens over aces. Yan Li tapped nice hand and mucked her cards.

In a battle of the blinds, Michael Soyza made a raise to 4,000 from the small blind with Moses Saquing making the call to defend the big blind. The flop presented 3♠ A♠ 4♣. Soyza led out with 3,000 and called Saquing's re-raise to 8,500 to see a K♥ on the turn. Soyza checked then re-raised all-in for 45,000 after Saquing bet out 15,500. Saquing snap called.

Soyza was drawing dead. The A♣ on the river improved Soyza to a set, but gave Saquing a four boat over aces to knock out Soyza.

Sun Oh Hahm made the min-raise to 2,400 from the hi-jack and Kit Lai Chun defended the big blind. The flop came J♣ 6♣ 9♠ . Chun led out with a 6,000 bet and Hamh pushed all-in for 35,500. Chun risked the last 29,400 along with a prayer.

Turn 3♣ gave Chun a flush with Hahm drawing dead. The River K♦ didn't matter. Chun doubled up and Hahm was severely crippled and in critical life support.

Naoya Katagiri made a min-raise from the button. Georgios Skarparis pushed all-in for 21,300 at the small blind. Katagiri made a snap-call and flipped over A♥ K♦. Skarparis showed 6♦ 6♥. Classic coin toss.

Flo Campomanes made a raise to 2,500 from the button. Hirotoka Nakanishi three-bet to 7,500 at the small blind. David Erquiaga defended his big blind by turning up the volume to 25,000. Campomanes avoided further damage while Nakanishi pushed his last 34,200 all-in. Erquiaga added a little more to make the call.

Nakanishi led all the way with a bit of a flush-draw scare, but the king on the river cemented the win for a much-needed double up.

John Joseph Panish made a 2,500 raise from under the gun and got called by William Tech at the small blind. Both players were given a flop of 3♦ 7♦ 5♣ . Tech bet out 4,700 and was called by Panish to see a 7♣ on the turn. Tech bet out a 7,000 second barrel, but folded when Panish three-bet to 21,000.

Someone raised to 6,500 from the cut-off with Darren Yu calling from the button and Sanjeev Kapoor from the small blind. The three see a flop of 7♦ 7♠ 4♦ . Kapoor led out with 5,000. The cut-off folded. But then, Yu three-bet to 15,000. Kapoor stared down at his chips and made the call to see an A♥ on the turn. Kapoor checked and Yu counted out 50,000 to put in the middle. Kapoor gave up.

Chin Wei Lim pushed the last 15,300 all-in and was called by Frd Aso Seitaro.

Tom Verbruggen min-raised to 2,400 and got called by Manish Lakhotia on the button and Terrence Jhon Dizon at the big blind. The three players were presented a flop of 4♣ A♥ T♦ . Action fell to Verbruggen who led out 3,000. Lakhotia called, but Dizon pumped it up to 9,000. Verbruggen made the call along with Lahotia to see an 8♣ on the turn. Dizon pushed 41,000 all-in and didn't find any callers to take down a handsome pot.

Kim Minjeong raised to 2,500 from the cut-off and Troy Mclean defended from the big blind to see a flop of A♣ 7♣ 3♥ . Mclean then check-called Minejong's 5,500 bet to see a Q♣ turn. Mclean checked and Minjeong pushed all-in for 11,500. Mclean decided not to lose more chips and folded.

In a battle of the blinds, Julian Warhurst pumped the flop fee to 6,000 from the small blind. Victor Chong answered back by three-betting to 18,000. Warhurst fired back by shoving 46,000 to the middle. Victor Chong took a few moments to soak it in and then folded.

Ganbold Battulga made a raise to 2,500 from the hi-jack with John Tech re-popping to 8,000 at the cut-off. Battulga pushed even further to make it 20,000 and Tech made the call to see a flop of J♥ 6♠ 7♦. Battulga led out with 14,500 which was called by John Tech to see a T♦ on the turn. Battulga checked and couldn't make the call after John Tech fired 33,000 to the pot.

Hideyoshi Tanaka limped from under the gun, but eventually called the 4,500 raise from Kit Lai Chun along with cut-off Sanjeev Kapoor and big blind Thomas Ward. Four players were shown a flop of 9♥ K♥ T♦ . Action was checked to the raiser, and Chun obliged them with a 10,000 bet. All folded except for Thomas Ward at the big blind, who made the call to see a 3♥ turn. Both players checked to see the 9♦ river. Ward then check-called Chun's bet of 16,000. Chun showed A♣ Q♥ for an ace-high while Ward flashed K♦ 7♦ for pair of kings.

Chew check-calls the 4,500 bet of Jeong to see a 6♦ turn. Chew check-calls again for 11,000 to see an A♣ on the river. Chew check-raised the 11,000 bet of Jeong for all his chips and Jeong made the call with the last of his 25,000. Chew flipped over A♥ K♦ and Jeong just walked out without even showing his hand.

Chun Jun Beum min-raised to 2,000 from under the gun and was called by Yan Li on the hi-jack. Both players saw a flop of A♥ A♦ Q♣. Beum bet out 6,000 and was called by Yan Li. Yan Li also called the 15,000 bet after the 9♠ turn. After the T♠ river, Chun Jun Beum pushed all-in with Yan Li snap calling.

Tom Verbruggen raised to 2,300 from the button and Andrej Nagy defended from the big blind. Both players were shown a flop of 7♣ Q♦ A♣. Nagy check-called the 1,800 bet to see a 5♣ turn. Both players checked to see a J♣ river. Nagy check-called the 7,000 bet and mucked his cards when Verbruggen showed a Q♣ 8♥.

In the battle of the blinds, Julian Warhust just wanted to limp in from the small blind, but was raised to 4,000 by Victor Chong on the big blind. In response, Warhurst four-bet to 16,000 with Chong making the call to see a flop of T♦ 2♦ 2♣ . Warhurst bet out 11,000 and was raised by Chong to 27,000. Warhurst played with his chips a bit and then made the call to see an 8♣ on the turn. Warhurst checked, then called the 35,000 bet of Victor Chong to see a 9♣ on the river. Both players checked. Warhurst flipped over big slick A♥ K♦ while Chong showed A♠ T♣ with the ten hitting the flop for a pair to win the huge pot.

Ionut Stochita made a raise to 2,200 frmo the hi-jack and Yohwan Lim four-bet to 8,000 from the big blind. Stochita took upon the challenge and both players saw a flop of J♦ 6♦ 6♣. Both players checked to see a 3♠ on the turn. Lim check-called the 8,200 bet of Stochita to see a 2♣ on the river. Both players checked again. Lim flipped over A♦ T♥ while Stochita mucked.

Vam Magsakay min-raised to 2,000 from the hi-jack and got Georgios Skarparis at the button and Joris Michl from the small blind to call. All three players were present a flop of 3♠ 5♦ J♠. Action was checked to the raiser, and Magsakay obliged them with a 3,000 bet. Both called to see a 3♦ turn. This time around it was only Michl who check-called the 8,000 bet from Masgsakay. After the 9♠ river was dealt, Michl checked the option to Magsakay, who pushed all-in for the last 16,100. Michl took a last peek at the hole cards and chucked them to the muck pile.

Edgar Antezana made a 2,500 raise from the cut-off which was called by Mansour Matloubi from the small blind. Both players were given a flop of 7♥ 7♣ 8♥. Matloubi check-raised the 2,500 bet of Antezana to 9,000. Antezana complied to see a 2♥ on the turn. Matloubi check-raised again after Antezana fired 15,000, but this time for all-his remaining 28,000. Antezana folded.

Naoya Katagiri made a raise to 2,200 from under the gun with Julian Warhurst calling from the button along with the two blinds. The four players are presented a flop of 2♦ 4♠ 5♥. Action is checked to Katagiri who bets 5,000 and is called solely by Warhurst. Both players are given a 9♥ on the turn, Naoya bet out 5,000 and made the call when Warhurst re-raised to 18,000 to see a Q♥ on the river. Naoya then check-called the 27,000 bet of Warhurst. Warhurst showed 2♠ 2♣ for a set of deuces while Naoya mucked his cards with a heavy sigh.

Terrence Jhon Dizon raised to 2,000 from UTG+1 with Manish Lakhotia defending the big blind. Both players are shown a flop of 6♥ 3♠ K♦. Lakhotia check-called the 2,000 c-bet of Dizon to see a 7♣ on the turn. This time around, Lakhotia check-folded to Dizon's 5,000 bet.

Despite the stormy weather, 166 poker hopefuls at Okada Manila still made the PHP 165,000 (~US$ 2,850) buy-in to participate in Flight B of the APPT Manila Champion, which is guaranteeing a prize pool of at least PHP 55,000,000 (~US$ 960,850). 112 survivors still remain and will play until the end of Level 11 where those still with chips get to bring them over for the Day 2 leg tomorrow.

Yan Li of China holds the biggest stack so far with 208,500 chips. Sanjeev Kapoor has the next big stack with 181,000 while Patrick Crivell rounds up the top three with 172,000.

Action was checked to Battulga, who c-bet 4,700. Only Hasler made the call to see a 3♠ on the turn. Hsler led out for 11,500 with Battulga making the call to see a T♥ on the river. Both players check. Hasler opened his cards to show Q♠ T♠ for a queen boat and Battulga threw his cards to the muck.

Jason Lee made a raise to 1,800 from UTG +1 and called the reraise to 5,800 by Ronald Ashley Lane on the big blind. Both players were shown a flop of K♥ 9♥ 2♠. Lane led out with 5,000 and Lee called with his remaining 1,800.

Lee led out with 2500 and was called by Ramos. When Kiyoung three-bet to 8,500, Lee folded, but Ramos remained to see a K♥ on the turn. Ramos then check-called the 16,000 bet of Kiyoung to see a 9♠ on the river. Ramos checked and call with all his 23,800 when Kiyoung bet out 30,000.

Ramos showed A♠ Q♣ for top pair aces while Kiyoung showed 5♣ 7♣ for a busted flush draw and straight draw.

After a raise battle, both Itsuki Morita and Yan Li eventually agree to put all their chips at risk. Itsuki Morita with the last 57,000 all-in called by Yan Li.

Lin Hao raised to 1,600 from the button and got called by San Soriano Ramos on the small blind and Kim Kiyoung on the big blind. The three players entered a flop of 5♥ 9♥ 5♦. Action was checked to Hao who bet 2,500. Soriano made the call while Kiyoung moved out of the way. The turn came 8♣ and both players checked to see a 5♦ on the river. Both players checked again. San Ramos Soriano showed 2♥ 2♠, but it wasn't good enough to win against the 7♥ 7♣ of Lin Hao.

Edgar Asehan raised to 1,300 from UTG+2, then completed the 4,500 re-raise of Jennifer Casell on the button. Both players are shown a flop of A♣ K♦ A♥. Asehan check-called the 1,500 bet of Casell to see a 5♣ turn. This time around, Asehan check-folded to the 5,000 bet of Casell, who wins a decent pot to stay afloat.

Mike Takayama made a min-raise to 1,200 from under the gun and got 4 callers. Five players entered a flop of K♦ 5♦ 2♥. When action was checked to Takayama, he didn't hesitate to fire 2,900. Jian Hui Giam, Juyeol Lee and Wayne Lau all folded. The only remaining caller was Jang Wongeun at the big blind. Both players saw an 8♣ turn. Wongeun then check-called by Takyama's 10,800 bet to lead to the 3♥ on the river. Wongeun check-called Takyama's all-in shove for 53,700.

Wongeun flipped over K♠ 3♠ for two-pairs while Takayama showed A♦ 4♦ for a wheel straight to take down the huge pot and double-up.

Ashely De Guzman started the raise at 1,200 from UTG+2 then got re-popped by Itsuki Morita to 4,500 from the cut-off. Not to be outdone, Daniel Neilson raised it even more to 9,500 from the button. De Guzman stepped aside and Morita continued on to see a 2♠ A♥ 4♣ flop. Morita check-called the 2,100 bet of Neilson to see a 7♦ on the turn. Both players checked to see a 9♣ on the river. Morita bet 17,000, but folded when Neilson shoved all-in.

Neel Ajit Joshi raised to 1,300 from under the fun and was called by Michael Gabby Concepcion on the button. Both players saw a flop of 7♦ 7♣ 5♥. Joshi check-raised the 1,800 bet of Concepcion to 6,300. Concepcion completed and both saw a T♣ on the turn. Joshi then check-called the 9K bet of Concepcion to lead to the K♥ on the river. This time, Joshi check-folded when Concepcion pushed his last 22,500 to the middle.

Emmanuel Derecho raised to 1,500 from under the gun and got Yohwan Lim to call from the cut-off along with Hirotoshi Nakabo from the small blind. All three players were treated to a flop of 6♥ 8♦ 4♠ . The action was checked to Yohwan Lim, who fired out 1,700 and was re-raised by Nakabo to 3,800. Derecho stepped away from the fight, but Lim stuck around to see a K♥ on the turn. Nakabo bet out 4,500. Lim tanked and then raised to 15,500. Nakabo made the call which led to a 3♣ on the river. Nakabo checked his option and Lim fired 20,500. Nakabo thought a moment and then mucked the hand.

Juyeol Lee raised from UTG+1 to 1,600 and Mike Takayama made the call from the button to see a flop of 8♣ 5♥ Q♦. Lee c-bet 1,800 and Takayama called again to see a 2♣ turn. Lee checked the action to Takayama who fired 2,700, forcing Lee to fold.

Naoya Katagiri got the ball rolling with a raise to 1,300 from UTG+2. Georgios Skarparis three-bet to 4,700 from the hi-jack and Julian Warhurst pushed it to 11,500 at the small blind.
