Another thrilling round of APL Main Event action arrived on scene with over double of yesterday's showing at 135 entries turning up the heat. Only 44 runners survived the initial eleven levels of play and ended with Filipino pro Renato Villanueva Jr high up in the ranks, stacking a strong 401,600 (251 BB) chip count. Villanueva's surge to the top came just as the day closed after a hero call against Mitsuki Sakimoto shipped him the lead.

Local talent dominated today's running with Filipino contenders racking up the top three counts. Both Kim Enriquez (361,400) and Kevin Mateo (271,800) delivered strong performances throughout the day, setting themselves up with a great advantage onto Day 2. Day 1A chip leader Sangwoo Chun continues to reign with his 550,400 (344 BB) stack remaining unbeatable.

All Day 2 qualifiers can take it slow tomorrow and enjoy a day off the felt before returning to battle for the next round of games. Three more heats are set to play down with late registration remaining open until the start of Day 2 on Saturday, March 1st.

With three hands left to go, Rene Mar David chucked in his last 22,100 (14 BB) and stood at the brink of elimination against Dongyeon Kang's pocket pair.

Vying for a 51,000 pot across board T♦ J♣ 2♠ 2♦ A♦ , Sihyun Kim was put in a tough spot by Florencio Campomanes after the latter shoved 61,500 on the river.

Kim decided to fold and show an A♥ and Campomanes returned the favor, showing T♣ 8♣ .

Hyobok Lee risked his last 13,000 and found himself in rough shape against Wanhee Kang at showdown.

No help arrived on board J♦ T♦ 3♠ 2♥ K♥ for Lee, busting him out in the process.

A fourway raised pot dealt a flop of 4♠ Q♦ 8♦ . Action was checked to Emmanuel Derecho, who bet 5,500. Renniel Galvez called right behind and faced another 21,000 bet on turn 5♠ .

Galvez this time, responded with an all-in for 17,100 more, leaving Derecho to take it to the streets with top pair K♦ Q♣ . Galvez behind with Q♠ 9♠ , caught a third spade on river 6♠ , earning him the pot along with a better chance of making Day 2.

Another blind vs blind confrontation saw Seungmin Yu at risk for his entire 31,800 (20 BB) against Mitsuki Sakimoto for a race.

Board 6♦ T♦ 6♠ 5♣ 7♥ ran dry for both, leaving Sakimoto's ace-high good for the takedown.

A blind vs blind battle between Frank Lillis and Philip Cabol was caught with a pot of 17,200 in the middle and a board of 6♣ 6♦ 7♥ 5♣ spread out on the felt. Lillis check called a 10,000 bet on the turn, but ultimately gave it up on river 7♦ after Cabol pulled the trigger.

Hyobok Lee went with 4♦ 4♥ for his last 7,300 and left Jariah Waring on the big blind, priced in to call with K♠ 3♠ .

Board T♣ T♥ 8♦ 7♠ 5♦ ran safe for the pocket pair, earning Lee the much needed double up.

Lenart Ecarma opened utg, raised by Edilberto Gopez right behind to 9,500. Chulho Park on the other end, squeezed all-in for 44,300 and saw Ecarma take the spot.

Park in rough shape, exited the arena just as board 9♦ 5♣ 2♣ 5♦ 8♦ left his pocket pair entirely behind.

Kevin Mateo opened 3,400 utg, followed by a raise to 10,400 from Haechang Lee on the button. Hao Wu on the small blind, decided it was time to go for his last 22,900, prompting an all-in from Mateo to isolate. Lee stepped out, leaving the two to showdown.

A coinflip situation, Mateo claimed the advantage on the turn 4♦ T♦ 6♦ J♦ with a flush, leaving Lee in pieces as river 8♣ failed to pair the board.

In a battle for a pot of 17,600 on board of 6♥ 5♣ Q♠ J♥, Emmanuel Derecho pulled a hefty bet of 13,500 and was tank called by Yoonhwan Jeon behind.

Derecho finished with a 60,000 overbet on river 2♦ , prompting Jeon to take a moment. After some deliberation, Jeon opted to fold, allowing Derecho to proudly reveal his bluff 9♥ 8♥.

With 38,500 in the middle across board K♦ 9♠ 8♠ 6♦ , turn action saw Hyundong Lee bet 15,000 on the button. Akihiro Kawaguchi didn't back down and checked river 3♠ to his opponent once more. Lee however checked it back, revealing Kawaguchi's flush Q♠ T♠ for the win.

Haechang Lee opened 3,000 utg, called by Kevin Mateo on the cutoff. Richard Marquez on the small blind, bumped it up to 12,700 and saw both complete.

On flop J♦ 4♦ 8♣ , Marquez led for 20,000 and saw only Mateo make the call. No more bets went in on either turn 7♠ or river T♣ , revealing Marquez' ace-high A♠ K♥ , no match against Mateo's top pair Q♣ J♠ .

Preflop action between the blinds - Juhwan Kim and Michihiko Matsuda, saw the pot grow to 35,000.

Kim continued for 8,000 on flop 7♥ 5♥ A♣ and finished with an all-in on turn 8♦ . Matsuda had no option but to fold, sending Kim’s stack soaring past the 100K mark.

Carlo Calingasan opened 3,000 utg and saw Byeongsoo Lee complete on the big blind.

Calingasan continued for 3,100 on flop A♠ J♥ 9♦ and followed with another 9,000 on turn 5♣ . Lee check called the initial street but gave it up as Calingasan proceeded with aggression.

Edwin Dela Cruz open jammed his last 14,400 (10 BB) mid position and was looked up by Marc Rivera right on the big blind.

A 50-50 spot, Rivera's overcards quickly landed the advantage on board K♠ J♣ 6♦ 4♣ K♠ , sending Dela Cruz off the Main Event stage.

Seungmin Yu defended his cutoff open and called a 9,500 three bet from Henrik Tollefsen right behind.

On flop T♠ 5♣ 8♦ , Yu check called another 6,500 and headed to turn 9♠ . Both checked it through to river 3♥ , where Yu led all-in. Tollefsen wasn't up to the challenge and shipped the win to his opponent.

Up against a late position open and a call, Yuhyeon Chu squeezed all-in on the big blind for 27,600 (20 BB) and was challenged by initial raiser Kevin Mateo.

Chu already significantly ahead, bagged a slam dunk win on board T♦ T♠ 6♦ 9♠ A♦ , having left his opponent drawing dead at an instant.

Tien Thanh Nguyen found himself in a prime spot, opening from the hijack with A♠ A♣ and quickly calling Joris Michl's all-in from the small blind.

Michl in trouble with A♥ 7♥ , ultimately missed to connect with board K♦ 8♠ 3♦ 6♠ K♣ , eliminating him from the Main Event qualifier.

Top Chip Counts

Facing a late position raise and a button call from Kim Enriquez, Andrei Vavilonskii made it 12,500 to go, with Enriquez being the only player to call.

On board T♥ 9♦ 2♣ 4♠ K♠ , Vavilonskii led all three streets - 7,500, 30,000, including a final all-in for 53,000, and saw Enriquez call down with no hesitation.

Vavilonskii knew he was beat once the final call was in, sending his A♦ 5♦ towards the muck as Enriquez tabled a set 9♠ 9♣ .

Emmanuel Derecho stuffed his 21,100 (18 BB) stack on the button and was challenged by initial raiser Philip Cabol.

Derecho at risk, held onto his seat as his pocket pair remained ahead all the way through board 5♠ 4♠ Q♣ 7♥ 7♠ .

With a late position 3,000 open ahead, Steve Yea called on the button and so did Renato Villanueva on the big blind.

Action on flop 9♣ 4♥ 3♦ was checked to Yea, who bet 5,000. Villanueva raised to 11,000 and Yea completed onto turn A♠ . Villanueva led another 17,000 and went on to demand the rest on river Q♣ .

Yea called down for his last 14,800 with top pair A♥ 5♥ , only to bow out as Villanueva revealed two pair 9♦ 3♥ .

Hanbyul Lee opened the action on the cutoff and saw Kookrim Choi complete on the big blind.

On board T♦ A♦ 6♣ 2♣ 4♦ , Lee triple barreled - 1,800, 2,000, along with a final bet of 8,000. Choi check called the first two streets but laid it down on the river after Lee asked for more.

Cezar Quiambao opened utg and was called by three players behind. Ferdinand Lu on the big blind, pulled a squeeze to 22,500 and called for his remaining 52,200 after Quiambao came back with an all-in.

Jariah Waring opened on the hijack and called a 5,500 three bet from Wanhyeok Jang right behind.

On flop 7♣ 5♣ 3♥ , Waring check jammed against Jang's 4,200 cbet and locked in the pot straight away.

Hoseung Jung opened utg and saw Jumpei Shibuya right beside bump it up to 5,000. Jung completed, revealing flop J♥ 9♦ 8♦ . Both checked their option onto turn 8♠ , where Jung led 2,500. Shibuya called behind but surrendered on river 3♠ after Jung pulled a final 4,500.

A button vs blind back and forth saw Edwin Dela Cruz four bet jam his entire 29,600 (29 BB), challenged by James Moriles for a showdown.

Dela Cruz in rough shape, turned the tables after board T♥ 6♥ A♦ 7♠ 8♣ landed him two pair to dodge a potential bust.

Michihiko Matsuda opened on the cutoff and was met with a 7,000 three bet from Hao Wu on the small blind. Matsuda answered with a raise to 19,000 but gave it up shortly after Wu put his tournament life at stake.

Kim Enriquez opened on the cutoff, followed by a raise to 5,500 from Andrei Vavilonskii on the button. Miura Shinya cold called on the big blind and Enriquez decided to go out of the way.

A back and forth between Haechang Lee and Inkyu Kim saw the latter commit his 27,200 stack preflop with the ladies.

Just right after sending Jimin Choo to the rails with Q♦ Q♥ against the latter's J♦ J♠ , Moriles was seen entangled in another pot straight away.
