World Poker Tour Releases Schedule for Upcoming WPT Prime Taiwan This August

On July 30, 2024, the World Poker Tour released the full player guide for the upcoming WPT Prime Taiwan 2024 stop. Set to take place from August 6 to 19, it is the fourth visit of the global brand to Taipei City and third installment in as many years of the mid-stakes WPT Prime series.

Many key figures for the fourth visit to Taiwan remain the same in the coming weeks, as the Asia Poker Arena will once again host one of the most promising live poker events of the year at this destination. Held in cooperation with the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association (CTP Club), hopes of yet another record edition are very high.

WPT Prime Championship

Marquee tournament on the schedule is the WPT Prime Championship, which features a buy-in of NTD 35,000 (~ USD 1,065) and USD 1,000,000 guarantee. There is little doubt that the seven-figure prize pool will be surpassed by a significant margin. The Championship Event features three available starting days across August 15 to 17, each of which will play down to the money with the top 12.5% rounded up set to advance.

As has been the case in previous WPT Prime stops, the Day 1 levels will last 40 minutes each and the duration then increases to 60 minutes per level until the heads-up stage has been reached. All players receive 40,000 in chips and unlimited re-entries are available during the registration period. The late registration for each of the opening flights is available until the start of level ten with the WPT Action Clock coming into play on each Day 1 at the conclusion of level 15.

In addition to the cash prize, the winner of the WPT Prime Taiwan Championship Event will also earn an entry to the 2024 World Championships at Wynn Las Vegas worth $10,400 with the accommodation value added by the WPT.

Other Events At WPT Prime Taiwan

With the festival lasting for nearly two entire weeks, the diverse schedule contains something for everyone’s budget. A total of 50 numbered events are set to take place and the opening day already features two satellites as well as five trophy events. This includes the Championship Warm Up with a buy-in of NTD 10,000 and a guarantee of NTD 5 Million (~USD 152,380), bolstering three Day 1 in as many days to kick off the poker activities.

Another bargain tournament to look out for is the highly sought after Mystery Bounty with a price tag of NTD 16,500 (~USD 500) and NTD 5 Million (~USD 152,380) guarantee.

Deeper pockets are required for the High Roller, which runs on August 11 and 12 with a buy-in of NTD 77,000 (~USD 2,350). That price tag pales in comparison to the Super High Roller, as it costs NTD 250,000 (~USD 7,630) to enter. This is followed by another High Roller on August 15, with all high-stakes contenders still having the chance to jump into the final starting day of the Championship Event thereafter.

All those bowing out early in the WPT Prime Championship can redeem themselves in either the NTD 120,000 High Roller or the more affordable NTD 16,500 SuperStack Classic, both of which kick off on Sunday, August 18. The series concludes the very next day with eight different tournaments either kicking off or re-starting to determine a winner.

One contest that consistently brings plenty of excitement is the WPT Player of the Festival. All numbered events on the schedule except for the Ladies and Seniors Events count towards the leaderboard.

One side event that doesn’t require any buy-in but always gains a large popularity is the WPT Players Party, which takes place as of 10pm local time on Saturday, August 17.

For players needing accommodations, special hotel rates and High Roller packages are available as well, the latter of which is limited to 20 packages with up to 13 free nights at the Check Inn Taipei Nanjing in close proximity to the Asia Poker Arena.

WPT Taiwan Previous Winners

Previously held as WPTDeepStacks, the live tournament series took place at CTP Poker Club in December 2020 and attracted a modest field of 526 entries. That figure increased to 877 entries in November 2022 when French poker pro Marc Inizan earned the lion’s share of the NTD 25,196,600 (~USD 809,133) prize pool.

The global live poker boom in recent years then propelled last year’s edition to a staggering 1,359 entries to set a record for the WPT Prime brand in Asia. Another French victory was denied by one spot only as Yannick Leonard finished runner-up to South Korea’s Seonguk Huh. Both shared the biggest piece of the NTD 39,546,900 (~USD 1,238,709) prize pool and Huh’s top prize of NTD 6,652,200 (~ USD 208,363) also included a $10,400 seat for the season-ending WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas.
