Park Yu ‘Sparrow’ Cheung leads PoF race
Head of Hong Kong Poker Players’ Association,Park Yu ‘Sparrow’ Cheung is in for another outstanding run at this year’s WPT Prime Taiwan games with two trophies already under his belt along with two more final table finishes. Four deep runs through the last nine days, Cheung’s series cashes pads up to TWD 1,557,900 (~USD 48,220) in winnings, while looking to add more to the list across the festival’s tail end. Currently, Cheung can be quickly spotted at the Championship Event games with his trademark green penguin by his side, remaining on the hunt for another big finish.
Cheung has so far cashed in four events:
- Event #6: Single Day Mini High Roller – 1st place
- Event #14: Deepstack Turbo 10K Big Bounty – 2nd place
- Event #16: Hyper Turbo High Roller – 1st place
- Event #27: Megastack Single Day High Roller – 5th place
Last season’s WPT Prime Taiwan saw Cheung bag the PoF win after inching over Yu Chung ‘Nevan’ Chang on the festival’s penultimate day. Cheung locked in a third place finish at the concluding Hyper Turbo event, earning him the final victory over close second Yen Han ‘Pete’ Chen. The newest WPT Global ambassador, Chen, bagged a trophy win right on the last day yet fell 20 points short of Cheung for the USD 5,000 WPT Passport up for grabs. Cheung finished the race with a total of 1,225 points earned across six events to emerge triumphant.
In a few words spoken with Cheung, the pro noted that high roller events remain on his target apart from focusing on the ongoing Championship Event festivities. The bigger buy-ins and smaller fields seem likely advantageous for his PoF run, considering only three are left on schedule.
Cheung currently leads the race, towing 626 points over the pack with second in the running Yu Chung ‘Nevan’ Chang falling right behind by a substantial margin. While Cheung is in the best position at the moment to secure this season’s USD 5,000 WPT Passport, the highly skilled runner mentioned that the upcoming WPT World Championship in Las Vegas remains outside of his plans and will most likely sell the Main Tour entry.
