For its third return on Taiwanese soil, the awaited World Poker Tour Prime Championship Event in cooperation with the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association (CTP Club), has finally arrived at Asia Poker Arena, Taipei. Since August 6th, thrilling games have been on the run with 33 events out of its 50 tournament lineup already dusted. All eyes are now set on the TWD 32,276,500 (~USD 1,000,000) guaranteed 2024 WPT Prime Championship Event as its first flight kicks off today, August 15th.

WPT Prime Taiwan Championship Event hits the felt
Six tables were already filled up right at the first level with several players taking advantage of a bonus promotion offered to Day 1A’s early birds. The first 50 registered players before the end of Level 1 secured a TWD 3,000 tournament entry voucher for the inaugural TMT Championship Main Event to be held in early November.
Runners continued to pile in with the field seen over the 150 entry mark right by the first break of the day. With unlimited re-entry allowed through Level 10 @ 17:45, the first heat’s turnout appears to be promising with hopes of surpassing last season’s 1,359 entry field remaining positive. Two more flights are set to run in following, with the qualifying rounds wrapping up on Saturday, August 17th.
Among those seated early are a number of strong Asia Pacific contenders of which includes current Player of the Festival leader Park Yu “Sparrow” Cheung, Edward Yam, Tae Hoon Han, and WPT Cambodia runner up Bien Mai. Well-decorated locals Chia Yun Wu, Kun Han Lee, and Hua Wei Lin are likewise in the mix, gunning for a spot into Day 2. Today’s Championship Event action is due to close once the field is down to the money as one in eight (1-in-8) entries – approximately 12.5%, will secure a portion of the prize pool.
Joining the day’s Championship Event opening flight are side events PLO, High Roller, and Deepstack 8 Max Turbo. Those looking to bag coveted WPT trophies are welcome to jump in, with the first trophy of the day already locked up as the Super High Roller played down to completion. Satellites for the TWD 35,000 (~USD 1,080) buy-in Championship Event continue to be available with another offering slated this evening at 20:00 local time for an entry of TWD 7,000 (~USD 215).
