WPT Macau slated to run this coming June falls out of the calendar

Looking to be an unseemly trend across the regional poker scene, another anticipated festival won’t see light this summer with the World Poker Tour having recently announced the cancellation of its WPT Macau Main Tour stop. In an official announcement released just yesterday, WPT revealed that its June festivities at Wynn Palace Cotai will not push through due to reasons unstated by the international brand.

WPT Macau, which was scheduled to take place in June, will not move forward. WPT, Wynn Macau, and Allied Gaming and Entertainment regret any inconvenience or disappointment for players from around the world who were planning to travel to Macau and play in the event.”, stated in WPT’s press release.

The exciting series was supposedly in the works to run a seven day lineup from June 18-24, 2024 in partnership with Allied Gaming & Entertainment (AGAE) and Wynn Macau. Twelve events were previously unveiled, centered around the HK$ 40,000 (~USD 5,100) buy-in WPT Macau Championship Event along with a mix of High Roller events.

WPT remains committed to working with Wynn Macau and AGAE in the future to bring world class poker tournaments back to the region.”, it added.

With the unexpected news comes the hope of seeing the prime gambling hub return as an ideal setting for the poker industry once more. It has been years since Asia’s entertainment capital has stepped out into the poker spotlight with many global runners remaining hopeful for its potential comeback in the near future.
