On March 28, the World Poker Tour (WPT) officially announced the next eight stops for the second half of the ongoing season. This includes three events in the Asia-Pacific region as the global live poker operator returns to Taiwan and Australia. Most notably, however, the WPT will head to Macau for the first time for which will be the first major live poker event in the “Las Vegas of the East” in eight years.
The announced schedule includes four WPT Main Tour stops and four editions of the highly popular WPT Prime mid-stakes competition. WPT Macau will be the third Championship Event of the current year on Asian soil and further expands the number of countries visited by the WPT, which will surpass four dozen with the newest destination.
“The first half of Season XXII has been outstanding,” said WPT CEO Adam Pliska in the official press release. “Looking ahead to the second half of the season, we think there is plenty for poker players to get excited about as we will host festivals on four different continents with sensational global casino partners.”
Macau, previously home to many PokerStars-sponsored live poker events for numerous years, hasn’t hosted any major tournament series since 2016. This will change from June 18-24 when the WPT Macau festival runs at the Wynn Palace in the special administrative regions of China. The full schedule has not been released yet but it is already confirmed that there will be a HKD 40,000 Main Tour Championship event.
Two months later from August 15 to 19, 2024, the third edition of WPT Prime Taiwan in as many years will take place. One year ago, the NTD 33,000 Main Event at the Asia Poker Arena in Taipei City set a new record for the brand in Asia with 1,359 entries. South Korea’s Seonguk Huh defeated Yannick Leonard in heads-up to claim the top prize of NTD 6,652,200 (~USD 208,363).
Another returning stop for the WPT brand is WPT Prime UK at the Dusk Till Dawn poker club in Nottingham from September 12 to 16, followed by the Main Tour stop at The Star Gold Coast. The Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup will return to Australia with the flagship AUD 8,000 Main Event to take place from September 20 to 25.
World Poker Tour Stops Outside of Asia-Pacific
As far as the Asia-Pacific region is concerned, these are the only stops officially announced so far but the schedule may very well be expanded further in the months to come. Two WPT Prime stops in Liechtenstein (September 26 to 30) and Paris (October 22 to 27) are next on the schedule, the former of which broke Taiwan’s record in 2023 and drew a massive 1,646 entries.
Two stops in Florida round up the batch of eight live events in November 2024. This includes WPT bestbet Scramble in Jacksonville, which will feature a $5,000 Main Tour stop from November 15 to 19. Furthermore, the WPT Seminole Hard Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open – one of the most popular stops for the brand – returns with a $3,500 Main Tour Event from November 29 to December 4.
By that time, poker players from all over the world are likely already making travel plans for one of the most highly anticipated festivals of the entire year. The third-ever WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas will headline the period just before Christmas and the details are expected to be released later this year.
Poker players from Asia won’t have to wait long for another opportunity to participate in a WPT live event. Furthermore, a trip to Australia doesn’t take that long either with the WPT Prime Gold Coast Championship less than three weeks away. Host will once again be The Star Gold Coast with the marquee AUD 2,000 tournament to run from April 19 to 23.
