Having coursed through nine days of thrilling action at Landing Casino, Jeju Shinhwa World, South Korea, the Red Dragon Poker Tour festival is winding down to its final day of games this Sunday, August 4th, with its headlining Championship Event close to crowning its newest champion. The biggest event held this year in Jeju drew in an astonishing 1,337 entries across four flights, and saw its prize pool soar way past the guarantee, listing KRW 2,567,843,000 (~USD 1,875,480) in total prizes. Japan’s Nana Nakamura currently leads the remaining nine into the Final Day after securing the largest bag by the end of Day 3, and stands to be in the best position to secure the KRW 392,403,000 (~USD 287,400) top prize.

Championship Event Day 3 Recap

Day 3 ushered a 60 player field back on the felt, all in search of a spot into the final table. China’s Ding Yayun kicked off the eliminations half an hour into the games, having lost a flip for a 60 big blind pot against Liu Jun. Still a long way through, a third of the pack quickly followed suit and was already seen stepping off the floor by the initial hour of play. Seasoned contenders Pete Chen (55th), Jinlong Hu (48th), Shiina Okamoto (43rd), and Wu Chiayun (39th), all fell short of running deep and exited early in the afternoon.

China’s Chen Chuan Shu who sat consistently amongst the big stacks throughout the day, found his momentum heading down as two tables remained. Chen paid off Japan’s Kozo Yamada in two crucial spots which cost him half his stack, and eventually advance through just stacking below average.

The biggest pot of the day however, unfolded after Nana Nakamura called off for her tournament life against Lyu Bo in a massive blind vs blind clash. The fearless Japanese contender made the right call, shipping her 16,950,000 in chips and landing the lead across the final table. Nakamura is already guaranteed her biggest career cash with all returning players in for a minimum payout of KRW 32,100,000 (~USD 23,510).

The final table bubble closed in following the exit of Zhao Yuejun in 10th place, having committed his last 7.5 big blinds with 2d2h against Liu Xiao’s AdKc. At risk, Zhao had his hopes up all the way through the turn, up until the river 10s7c8c7hKs paired up his opponent’s overcards to knock him out. Zhao settles for a KRW 25,160,000 (~USD 18,420) payday, and leaves with the final nine in place.
