Yong Wai Keong from Malaysia is newbie poker professional. Keong is only in his second year on live tournament play but has already made 27 cashes in the 10 tournaments he has played as of this writing. Although he has yet to win a title, Keong has managed to make inroads in his young career and has collected total earnings of $88,708 to put him at number 73 in Malaysia’s All Time Money List.

Rising Player – Yong Wai Keong

Yong Wai Keong made his debut as a pro in July 2022 at the Poker Dream Malaysia 2022, Kuala Lumpur with a deep run at the Deep Stack Event. He finished 7th for his very first cash. The Malaysian played only on more tournament that year at the Poker Dream Vietnam 2022, Hoi An but made the final table of the NLH Turbo Event to finish 3rd. His total earnings for the year amounted to $ 11,436.

In 2023, Yong Wai Keong announced his arrival as a contender when he finished second to compatriot Yeu Hsiang at the Single Day High Roller Event of the Poker Dream Manila 2023. Keong banked $ 33,200 for his career best cash to date. Keong was chip leader heading to the first day of Poker Dream Manila’s Main Event but eventually tumbled to 25th at the tournament’s end.

In August, the Malaysian newcomer made his foray into Europe, playing at the World Series of Poker International Circuit – WSOPC Super Circuit London. He then returned to Kuala Lumpur to make a deep run at the High roller Event of Poker Dream 6 – Malaysia. Keong’s total cash for the year improved to $ 63,349. Yong Wai Keong most recent success was at the 2024 Poker Dream 9 Malaysia, making a final table finish at the Mystery Bounty Event.
