Zhang Cheng Tops Day 2
By the end of Level 24, Day 2 ended with 17 players remaining. Zhang Cheng bagged the chip lead of 88 bb and was one of six players from China surviving the grueling ten hour competition. Zhang had several eliminations under his belt including a cooler against Will Kwok that catapulted him to the top. The day’s entering chip leader, Xiaosheng Zheng, also secured a final day spot with 41 bb in his arsenal.
Running a close second rank was Vietnam’s Pham Bao with 83 bb. Bao picked up a big pot against Woojin Kim who bluffed with overcards against Bao’s pocket pair. At the time, Kim was race leader. Bao also eliminated the day’s entering second largest, Pradeep Nudurumati with set over two pair. Bao is one of five players flying the Vietnam flag that made it through the day. Another contender was Thi Bao An Nguyen, the only remaining female player. At one point, Nguyen was down to just 2 bb and spun it up to bag up 21 bb. Day 1A chip leader Van Dang Nguyen also survived with 22 bb at bagging time.
Nearing the end of day, India’s Gagandeep Malik enjoyed a card rush that eventually earned him a top three position with 76 bb. On a cooler, Malik was nearly out, instead he landed back to back bad beats that eliminated Nick Woodward. First hand, Malik cracked Nick Woodward’s pocket Aces with pocket Kings that turned set on the flop then to rub more salt on the wound, Malik took the rest with Ace-Nine spiking the kicker to dust Ace-Queen.
