Record-largest APT Main Event in South Korea sees Australia’s Aaron Lim leading the 134 pack through Day 3
Final numbers are in for this year’s APT Incheon Main Event where the tour recorded yet another outstanding feat in this season’s games. The tournament tables at Paradise City Casino welcomed a total of 709 entries across its four starting flights and a further 50 registrants for Day 2 in addition to the 171 online entries collected. Altogether, this brings the 2023 APT Incheon Main Event tally up to 930 entries (564 unique) for a generated prize pool of KRW 1,867,347,000 (~USD $1,411,975). The colossal pot stands to be a new country record for the largest ever APT Main Event with Australia’s Aaron Lim leading the 134 survivors by the end of Day 2.
Day 2 Recap
Action on Day 2 closed in after ITM was reached at 135 entries by the seventh level of the day. Chip leader Aaron Lim delivered the bubble after eliminating local runner Gary Moon with against the latter’s in a blind vs blind all-in preflop race. In doing so, Lim breached the one million mark after claiming the 350,000 pot and sits with a massive 180 BB stack heading into Day 3.
Only 134 will return to the felt this afternoon considering Japan’s Masaki Nakamura managed to make the money across both live and online setting. Nakamura’s smaller stack will be pulled out of play and credited a minimum payout of KRW 3,700,000 (~US$ 2,800), with his larger 197,000 chip count moving forward.
Today’s games are where decisions start to matter more with the money trickling in and the field drawing some of the fiercest contenders in the industry. Among those are previous APT Main Event champions including sixteen-time APT champions Lester Edoc (658,000), and Mike Takayama (108,000), and APT Taipei Main Event champion Punnat Punsri (216,000).
Series winners APT Super High Roller champion Milos Petakovic (609,000), four-time APT champion Dicky Tsang (258,000) and APT Superstar Challenge winner Jun Hao Wu (238,000) also made the cut and are joined by APT Da Nang Main Event runner-up Shinya Maeda (500,000), Chin Wei Lim (432,000), Sparrow Cheung (262,000), and Natural8’s Yu-Chung Chang (129,000) and Danny Tang (82,000).
Day 3 plays down today, September 1st at 12:15pm, to the tournament’s final nine players. Blinds resume on Level 17: 3,000 / 6,000 – ante 6,000 following 60 minute blind intervals throughout.
