2024 APPT Manila – Cove Manila at Okada Manila

The record-breaking APPT Manila Main Event opened Day 2 with the return of 239 players, each one targeting the money round starting at 191st place. That happened within the first hour and a half with Korea’s Gyeongseok Jeon shoving AdQc into fellow player Pyeongkang Kim }ah}Kd to fall on the bubble.

With the cash flowing, it was a race for a spot at the final table or survive eleven rounds, whichever was first. The day’s entering chip leader Aldous Formanes, was already freerolling the event having won his seat at the PHP 100 buy in PokerStars Special Event. Formanes had a roller coaster day that ended in 38th place for a profit of PHP 305,000 (~USD 5,280).

Daniel Benor at APPT Manila
Daniel Benor

One of the early movers was Ashley Patterson who eliminated Renniel Galvez in one of the most shocking hands witnessed all day. However, Patterson was eventually stopped in 28th place by Daniel Benor which was the catalyst that led to the Israeli’s rise.

Considerably Benor’s biggest hand was against Im Heesoo with top pair on the river paid handsomely, he also denied James Dela Cruz’s bluff to build a commanding lead. Benor bagged the chip lead with a stack of 88 bb (based on the Final Day starting blinds).

John Matsuda at APPT Manila

Other big stacks were Japan’s Shobu Oda and John Matsuda. While Oda built a formidable stack midway through, for the latter Matsuda, he experienced a late-game surge, eliminating three players that earned him his spot in the top three.

Among the final day qualifiers were Vietnam’s Huu Dung Nguyen and Tran Huy Hoang. Local heroes also returning are John Tech, Vamerdino Magsakay, and Mike Takayama, the hottest running player of the series.
