Largest event in Taiwan history; WPT Prime Main Event sees colossal Day 1C tunrout of 452 entries; Zachary Tay bags overall lead; 108 into Day 2
For the past three days, it has been wall to wall at the World Poker Tour Prime Taiwan Main Event at Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association (CTP Club) with yesterday’s final entry day drawing an explosive 452 entries. This brought the overall total entry field to 877 making it the largest ever poker tournament in Taiwan (of this buy in) and richest with a tournament prize pool of NT$ 25,196,700 (~$814,675).
Day 1C review
Day 1C festivities opened with 100 entries pulled in within the first half hour of Level 1. By the first break, that number more than doubled with 264 entries and a long line of alternates waiting to get in. Another welcome ceremony speech was delivered, this one by WPT Host Asheligh Lawrence,
“Thank you to everyone, the players, the staff, the dealers. It is our 20th year anniversary, we are celebrating. We have a cake that everyone is welcome to.”
The day continued for another three levels then registration closed at 452 entries. Added to the 189 of Day 1A and 236 of Day 1B, it was a colossal 877 entries combined. This set a new record for a Taiwan Main Event of this buy in. Without argument, this also amassed the richest prize pool of NT$ 25,196,700 (~$814,675).
With a field that size, it was no surprise to see it run late as players hung on, trying to make it in the money. The bubble round lasted nearly two hours until it finally burst with three players eliminated simultaneously. Read up on the action via the WPT Live Updates. Bagging up the chip lead were Zachary Tay and Marc Inizan, both players surpassing Day 1B leader Metasit Pratipsangkom in the counts. The night closed with 51 players joining the combined Day 2 list.

Returning to action for Day 2 are 108 players, each one guaranteed NT$ 55,400 however, what they will be chasing is the NT$ 4,650,600 (~$150,365) first prize and the WPT Trophy. Play resumes at 1pm on Sunday, November 20.
