Early results of the ongoing APT Championships Philippines 2017
The biggest Asian Poker Tour event of the year, the APT Championships Philippines 2017, is currently ongoing at Resorts World Manila with twelve days of poker festivities running from April 26th-May 7th.
Several events have already wrapped up with the Main Event scheduled to start today. Here’s a look at some of the early results and what’s yet to come.
Sam Razavi one spot shy as Dhanesh Chainani win the Champions Cup
The Sam Razavi Champions Cup, an invitational tournament for all past APT champions from 2012 onwards, had a very exciting finish with Razavi himself nearly winning his namesake event. There were 448 players eligible for the event, however only 39 of them competed in this very tough field. While many big names fell such as Iori Yogo, Tetsuya Tsuchikawa, SJ Kim, Jeon Seung Soo, Lester Edoc, Gerard Bringley, Kosei Ichinose, and many more, it was Yuri Ishida who struck out in the bubble. As for Razavi, he fell one spot shy of the title, defeated by Dhanesh Chainani at the heads up round.

Newcomer Huu Dung Nguyen wins the massive 318-field opener
It was a big moment for APT newcomer Huu Dung Nguyen who topped a 318-field APT-RWM Opening Event to win his first APT title and the US$19,050 first prize. This was Nguyen’s biggest and first ever takedown having posted US$1,054 cash as his highest pay to date, which he earned in December 2016. This victory will certainly keep him in cloud nine for some time. The opening event advertised a 50K guarantee and with the huge turnout, it blew well past it to US$77,110.

Early score for Lim Yohwan with one cash and one title
Famous Korean gamer, Lim Yohwan aka Boxer, was not wasting any time getting on the board at the APT Championships Philippines 2017. Yohwan cashed in the opening event with a 27thplace finish out of 318 entries then he went on to win the record breaking Ante Up for Charity event with 74 players. Yohwan will also be competing in the special SNG event sponsored by PokerFishS later this evening. He will be part of the APT roster teamed up with Samad Razavi, Iori Yogo, and Lester Edoc.
Super High Roller Event cancelled
While the APT is known more for mid range buy-ins, their ongoing festival did include an ambitious Super High Rollers event with a HKD 1M entry fee. This however didn’t pan out so well as the event had to be cancelled.
The Main Event is up next, with two entry days starting today, Saturday April 29th. Buy-in is US$1,100. The event will run a total of five days. We will keep you posted on the action so make sure to check back with us for all those updates.
