APL Road Series: 152 entries for Day 1C with Choi Jae Young on top; Xing Biao and Carmona capture trophies

The final starting day of the APL Road Series Vol.1 Philippines Main Event P5,000,000 Guaranteed had players flocking to the tables all afternoon that by the end of late registration it had amassed a 152 strong field. Combine that number with the previous starting days, this drove the prize pool to Php6,693,000 easily crushing the advertised guarantee. Closing Day 1C with the largest stack was Korea’s Choi Jae Young with 214,500.

Running alongside the Main were two side events which saw China’s Zhu Xing Biao and Philippines Adones Carmona capturing trophies. See the recaps below.

Korea’s Choi Jae Young slips into the lead at the end of Day 1C

Unlike the previous starting days, a large contingent of local players stormed in to attend Day 1C that by the end of the scheduled 12 rounds, many of them advance to Day 2. Among them were decorated pros Mike Takayama, Czardy Rivera, and John Tech, all of whom closed the day with above average stacks. The largest however was bagged by the country’s fast rising superstar, Eugene Co, who took third rank with 193,800 in chips.

Co would have finished one spot higher had it not been for Choi Jae Young’s late game takedown. During one of the last hands of the day, Young shipped in a sizable pot that sent his stack skyrocketing to the leader’s seat. Young held 4c5c trips over AdQd two pair on a board of 4d4hQcAcKd with all the chips going in on the turn. Young ended the day with a commanding 214,500.

At Young’s heels was fellow Korean player Lee Chang Gon in second rank with 201,800. One of Lee’s victims of the day was Rommel Angeles whose top two pair fell to Lee’s set of threes.

China’s Zhu Xing Biao wins the No Limit Hold’em Turbo

With the Main Event seeing a huge attendance, the No Limit Hold’em Turbo side event turned up a small field of 13 players. The game ran at high pace, finishing in just over 5 hours. The man that took it down was Zhu Xing Biao earning the first trophy for China. Zhu defeated Philippine player JC Sayo at the heads up round with the final hand seeing both players all in preflop. Zhu held A-8, Sayo with J-J, and with the board spreading out 5-6-7-2-4, Zhu won it with a straight.

Adones Carmona wins the Pot Limit Omaha 2

The Pot Limit Omaha 2 had a higher turnout than the earlier side event with 34 players ponying up the P11,000 entry fee. This generated a prize pool of Php329,800 with 5 players earning a cut. Claiming the largest piece was Philippines Adones Carmona after defeating fellow Lester Edoc in just one hand of the heads up round.

The hand saw Edoc limp on the button, Carmona bet the pot, and Edoc called. On a flop of Jd5d7d, Carmona bet pot again, Edoc raised, and Carmona called. On the Qs turn, both were all in. Lester had Jh7h9d2d, Carmona with Ac4dAdAc. The river 5h completed the board and Carmona reigned with the nut flush. Carmona claimed the Php115,400 first place cash prize and a trophy for his poker altar.
