WPT Prime Cambodia pays out nearly US$ 3.5 Million; Kiale Matthews wins Player of the Festival; Australia and India bag four event trophies; WPT Prime India up next

The richest WPT event in Asia has come to a close. After thirteen days, of games that ran from March 9 to 21, the World Poker Tour Prime Cambodia Season XXI came to an end. Players from around the world poured in host venue NagaWorld Integrated Resorts in Phnom Penh to generate an overall prize pool of US$ 3,495,487 across thirty events.

In attendance was a strong showing of players from India and Australia, both countries scoring four event trophies each. At the close, Kiale Matthews topped the Player of the Festival to give the Aussies one more title to finish ahead. Matthews shared,

“After my first final table, I looked at the trophy the next day after I’d already thought about player of the series and because it’s a different color than the other ones I said to myself ‘I want that’.”

Matthews won a WPT Passport worth US$ 5,000 to any Season XXI WPT Main Tour which he will likely be using this September at WPT Australia in Gold Coast.

Emerging the single largest tournament winner was Main Event champion Japan’s Reiji Kono. He outlasted a field of 1,011 entries to claim US$ 121,331 in cash and a US$ 10,400 WPT World Championship entry ticket. Other players pocketing six figures were Vietnam’s Bien Mai (2nd place Main Event – US$ 117,842), France’s Matthieu Lamagnere (3rd place Main Event – US$ 112,247), and Australia’s John Perry (1st High Roller 3K – US$ 105,487).

Next up is the brand’s long awaited return to Goa, India. The last time the WPT was in the country was back in 2019. WPT Prime India runs from April 12 to 18 onboard the Deltin Royale. A total of 13 events are lined up with the Main Event scheduled from April 13 to 17. Buy in is ₹65,000 (~US$ 800).
