Nine Asian bracelet holders survive 2023 WSOP Main Event Day 1D, list includes Lok Ming Chan, Mike Takayama, Anson Tsang, Jiyoung Kim; 304 Asians into Day 2
Another big batch of Asian players made the cut to Day 2 of the record breaking $10,000 No Limit Hold’em World Championship aka WSOP Main Event. The last starting day – Day 1D – drew an enormous crowd that sent the total number surging to over 9,000 players. The heat closed with 114 Asia runners scattered across the lengthy survivor list. Among them were 9 bracelet holders led by Hong Kong’s Lok Ming Chan with 206 bb. One hand that helped Chan get there was banking a three-way with a straight flush.
Lone Filipino bracelet winner Mike Takayama bagged up very healthy as well of 151 bb. He is also one of the contenders of the Somuchpoker Survivor Promo. On the opposite end of the pole was Hong Kong’s triple bracelet winner Anson Yan Shing Tsang. Tsang has already reached ITM in five events but will have to chip up in Day 2 to cash at the main. Tsang bagged up 20 bb at the end of day.

In addition to bracelet holders were 104 Asian players bagging up chips. Korea earned the top three Asia spots which included well known pro Soo Jo Kim. While it is still a long grind to the money, Kim is in prime form to land his first ever WSOP Main Event cash. This year alone he has already earned two six-digit payouts in Korea.
Further down the rung was Thailand’s Punnat Punsri who has been running red hot since last year. Apart from numerous big cashes and takedowns, at the WSOP he came close to gold in two events, finishing 2nd and 3rd. At the ongoing series, he has six cashes with one 9th place finish.
From China, decorated pro Xixiang Luo ran up his stack to 152 bb. He was one of 17 players from China to advance in this flight. In total survivors, China came in second to Japan who topped the count again with a whopping 54 players powering through.
