2023 WSOP: Pakinai Lisawad, Lester Edoc, Weiran Pu, Vincent Li among top ten of Main Event Day 1C
The largest crowd yet at the 54th Annual World Series of Poker $10,000 No Limit Hold’em World Championship aka WSOP Main Event with Day 1C filling up two huge ballrooms of the Horseshoe Casino Las Vegas and a large portion of Paris Las Vegas
As always, delivering the opening words was WSOP Vice President, Jack Effel, who introduced the 2022 champion Espen Jorstad for a short speech and the customary call.
“A lot of people have been asking me what is my main tip for the Main Event, and to me it is just patience. The structure of this tournament is so good, there’s so much room for play. Last year, I bagged 30% of starting stack after Day 1, I bagged 17,000, and then spun it up on Day 2. So don’t give up. Have patience. Take your time. Good luck to everyone! Shuffle up and deal!”
With that Day 1C got underway. By the end of the scheduled five two-hour levels, over 3,000 players had signed up, the largest Day 1C in history, and roughly 700 were dusted. Topping the counts was bracelet holder Christopher Brammer while the highest ranking player from Asia was China’s Quan Qiu in 12th with a stack of 293 bb.
Not too far behind were Thailand’s Pakinai Lisawad, Filipino Lester Edoc, and recently minted Chinese player Weiran Pu.Edoc is one of 12 players that advanced who availed of the Somuchpoker Survivor promo.
Further down the rung were Malaysian high rollers Wai Kiat Lee and Chin Wei Lim with 179 bb and 101 bb, Manila Super Series Main Event champion William Ysmael with 178 bb, and bracelet holders Nikita Luther (119 bb), Jinho Hong (86 bb), Sung Joo Hyun (36 bb), and Danny Tang (15 bb).
Unlike the past two starting days where the Chinese dominated the Day 2 qualifiers, this flight was ruled by Japan with 32 players making the cut. Yuya Kita topped the pack with 191 bb. Other notables were Masato Yokasawa (126 bb) and Tamon Nakamura (66 bb).
