Cooper Feltham Lifts WPT Prime Championship Trophy; Denies Ling Liu Becoming First Female Prime Winner

Cooper Feltham has been crowned champion of the WPT Prime Championship at WPT Australia 2026, denying Ling Liu heads-up of being the first female Prime winner at The Star Sydney.

Feltham collect AUD 187,793 (~$133,579) following a heads-up deal, the trophy, and a AUD 1,500 WPT Prime Championship ticket for Las Vegas in December, while Liu collected AUD 161,127 (~$114,595) for her runner-up finish.

The Championship attracted 1,036 entries and generated a AUD 1,346,800 prize pool, with start-of-day chip leader Liu Yang completing the podium in third place for AUD 99,000 (~$71,476).

Feltham Battles Back From the Short Stack

Feltham began the nine-handed final table sixth in chips, while Yang returned with a a big lead at the top. Daniel Francis was the first player to depart, falling to Yang in ninth place, before Jiaxu Chen shortly after in eighth.

Feltham then found himself in danger after slipping down the bottom of the counts, but doubled through Louis Luo to keep his tournament alive and leave Luo with just a single big blind. Luo was eliminated shortly afterwards by Sasha Skalrud in seventh.

Feltham kept building and found another boost when he eliminated Jinyu Wang in sixth. After picking up pocket aces on one hand, Feltham woke up with pocket kings on the very next deal and called Wang's short-stack shove to reduce the field to five.

It took nearly five hours of play to get from five players down to four, with the chip lead changing hands and the shorter stacks repeatedly finding ways to survive.

Feltham remained heavily involved throughout. He picked off a Liu bluff with just king-high in one of the biggest hero-calls of the tournament, while also steadily working his way up the counts.

The biggest swing came shortly before dinner when Feltham won a huge flip against Skalrud in a pot worth over a third of the chips in play. Feltham had been the player at risk with pocket jacks, but held versus Skalrud's ace-queen.

Kenta Ito was the first to go after dinner, running into Feltham to finish fifth for AUD 56,500.

Feltham came from behind to eliminate Skalrud in fourth before coming out on top in a flip to send start-of-day chip leader Yang out in third and take more than a 12:1 chip lead into heads-up.

Heads-Up

Liu doubled on one of the first hands of heads-up play and then doubled again soon after to drag herself back into the contest. Liu also picked off a Feltham river bluff with just ace-high as the gap continued to close.

The pair then paused the action to discuss a deal. Feltham locked up AUD 177,793, while Liu secured AUD 161,127, leaving another AUD 10,000, the WPT Prime Championship ticket and the trophy to play for.

Liu's comeback continued after the deal as another double-up saw her take the chip lead for the first time all day.

Feltham refused to let things slip away, however. He picked off another Liu bluff before extracting a big chunk of value in another pot to regain control and leave Liu short once again.

Liu found one final chance to turn the match around when she got her stack in ahead, but Feltham came from behind to make a wheel on the river and bring the tournament to an end.

The pair embraced as the battle concluded, with Feltham adding the remaining AUD 10,000 to his deal payout and being crowned WPT Prime Championship winner for AUD 187,793 (~$133,579).

Ling Liu jammed the button for 12,000,000 and Cooper Feltham made the call from the big blind, giving him another chance to close out the tournament.

Both players had an ace, but Liu's seven-kicker had her out in front and in a great position to wrestle back the heads-up chip lead.

The 4♦ J♦ 4♥ flop opened the door to some chop opportunities for Feltham, before the 3♠ turn gave him a wheel draw to snatch the title away.

The dealer burned a card and put out the 5♠ on the river. Feltham had got there, completing the wheel to send Liu to the rail as the runner-up.

Feltham and Liu embraced as the battle came to an end, with Feltham crowned champion of the WPT Prime Championship Event.

The 8♠ landed on the river and Liu checked for the last time. Feltham slid out a bet of 5,000,000.

Liu took her time before making the call with 9♦ 2♦ for a pair of deuces, but was second best to Feltham's Q♠ 4♥ for a pair of queens.

Skalrud Takes Part in the First Two Pots

Sasha Skalrud raised the cutoff to 200,000 with K♠ T♠ and Jinyu Wang defended K♦ T♥ in the big blind.

With the same hand, they saw a flop of Q♦ Q♥ 8♣, and Wang checked it over to Skalrud, who fired 150,000. Wang peeled one off and saw the J♣ land on the turn, giving both players an open-ended straight draw.

Another check followed from Wang, and Skalrud knuckled behind to the 5♥ river. Again it checked through, and the opening pot was chopped up.

In the next hand, Skalrud raised to 200,000 in the hijack with J♠ T♥ and Liu Yang three-bet A♥ K♥ in the cutoff to 650,000. Skalrud folded.

Nine Remain in Hunt for AUD 215,920 WPT Prime Championship Top Prize

WPT Prime Australia Trophy

The WPT Prime Championship reaches its conclusion today at The Star Sydney, with just nine players remaining from the 1,036-entry field and Liu Yang leading the way as they return to battle for the title.

The tournament generated a prize pool of AUD 1,346,800, with each of the nine finalists already guaranteed at least AUD 22,000 for reaching the final table. However, all eyes will be on the AUD 215,920 top prize and WPT trophy awaiting the eventual
