Neng Zhao Tops Day 1B, Eyes Back-to-Back Titles at Won Poker Cup III

Level 17: 4,000 / 8,000 ante: 8,000
Neng Zhao

Day1B of the Won Poker Cup III Mystery Bounty is officially in the books, and it's Neng Zhao who leads the survivors after amassing a towering 1,019,000 in chips.

Out of 119 total entries, only 15 players made it through to Day 2, joining the survivors from previous flights. This puts the running total at 194 entries, with Day 1C still underway and sure to push the field even higher.

Zhao, fresh off his victory in the Won Poker Cup III Warm-Up, is in prime position to capture a second trophy. His stack more than double Day 1A chip leader Khayal Abbasov, who bagged 410,000, and falls behind Kim Long Lam, who bagged 510,000 chips.

Zhao showcased a masterclass in chip accumulation throughout the day—building patiently, applying pressure at the right moments, and exploiting spots where others faltered. Once he established control, he wielded his stack with surgical aggression, often forcing opponents into uncomfortable folds or ill-timed shoves.

Fittingly, Zhao closed the flight with a bang—bursting the bubble when his queens held against Thai Cong Huan’s ace-jack, sending Huan to the rail just short of the money.

Several other notable names from Day 1B are also through to the final day, ready to chase bounties and glory.

With Day 1C still ongoing, the field will grow—but the question is:

Can Zhao hang on to the top spot and run it back for a second title in the same series?

Bubble Bursts Under Zhao’s Queens

Level 17: 4,000 / 8,000 ante: 8,000
Tran Cong Huan

Neng Zhao opened to 18,000 and was met with an all-in shove from Thai Cong Huan. Zhao didn’t hesitate—he made the call, putting Huan’s tournament life on the line right on the bubble.

Thai Cong Huan: A J

Neng Zhao: Q Q

The board ran out 2 3 9 K 7, offering Huan no help as Zhao’s pocket queens held firm.

With that, Huan’s run ended just shy of the money, bursting the bubble and sending the rest of the field into a guaranteed payday.

Turned Up the Heat — And Busted

Level 17: 4,000 / 8,000 ante: 8,000

After Lam Long completed the small blind, Tomas Dedinas raised it up to 21,000 from the big blind and got a call.

The flop came 4 T 2, and Dedinas continued with a 16,000 bet. Long didn’t just call—he check-raised to 56,000, putting pressure on immediately.

When the 2 hit the turn, Long shoved all-in, ramping up the aggression. Dedinas, perhaps sensing a chance to catch a bluff, made the call.

The river K was no savior.

Long turned over T 7 for top pair on the flop, while Dedinas showed Q 4h—just bottom pair and a prayer. It wasn't enough.

When the pot was pushed across the table, Dedinas stood up and made his exit, undone by a bold line that didn’t pan out.

Aces Uncracked: Jones Sends Kevin Packing

Level 16: 3,000 / 6,000 ante: 6,000

Craig Jones opened the action with a raise to 15,000, and Kevin answered with a shove. Without hesitation, Jones made the call, putting Kevin on the brink of elimination.

Craig Jones: A A

Kevin: A Q

It was a classic cooler, and Kevin needed a miracle. But the board ran out 4 7 2 2 K, offering no lifeline. Jones’ rockets stood tall, and Kevin’s tournament journey came to an abrupt end.

Jones, cool and composed, raked in the pot as another contender hit the rail.

Deuces Was All It Needed

Level 15: 3,000 / 5,000 ante: 5,000

Neng Zhao and Huynh Ngoc Thai clashed in a blind-versus-blind all-in showdown, with Thai's tournament life hanging in the balance.

Huynh Ngoc Thai: A J

Neng Zhao: J 2

The board ran out K 2 6 3 7, and sometimes all it takes is the smallest of hits—Zhao’s humble pair of deuces was enough to defeat Thai’s ace-high and end her run.

It wasn’t flashy, but it was effective—Zhao scooped the pot and added another elimination to his name.

An Ace in the Window Spells Doom for Thai

Level 15: 3,000 / 5,000 ante: 5,000

Nguyen Quoc Cuong opened to 10,000 and was swiftly met with an all-in shove from Quynh Thai. Without hesitation, Cuong called, flipping over A Ts—only to find himself in a classic race against Thai’s T T.

But the flop was brutal: 2 A 4d—an ace right in the window, turning the tide instantly and putting Thai on the brink of elimination. The Q and 4 sealed her fate with no saving ten in sight. A Cuong calmly stacked his newly won chips, Thai walked away in silence, her run cut short in heartbreaking fashion.

Craig Jones made the call on Phan Huu Minh Tri’s open-shove from his immediate right, risking his tournament life in the process.

Jones was relieved to see he had A J, a strong favorite against Tri’s K 7. But the poker gods had other plans.

The flop of T Q 3 kept Jones ahead, but when the 7 landed on the turn, the tide turned sharply in Tri’s favor. The river 4 sealed Jones’ fate, sending him to the rail, visibly disheartened, as Tri collected the pot with a timely pair of sevens.

Thai and Tran quickly got out of the way, leaving the two to go to showdown.

Martin Gonzales: A K

Gonzales was in good shape pre-flop, but the dealer fanned out 7 T 6, pairing Zhang's ten to take the lead. Still holding hope for one of his overcards to hit, the 4 turn and 8 river brought no help. Gonzales was eliminated as Zhang raked in the pot.

Nguyen Finds a Miracle Turn to Stay Alive

Level 10: 600 / 1,200 ante: 1,200

Right before the break, Ngoc Ha Nguyen was all-in for her tournament life against Le Buu Nghia in a classic showdown: big slick versus pocket kings.

Ngoc Ha Nguyen: A K

Le Buu Nghia: K K

The flop came down A Q K, giving Nguyen top two pair but leaving her well behind Nghia’s set of kings. It looked grim, and the tension at the table was clear as Nguyen watched quietly, hoping for a lifeline.

Then came the A on the turn — a dramatic twist that gave Nguyen aces full of kings, turning the tables and cracking Nghia’s full house of kings full of aces. A small smile spread across her face as she realized she was back in the game, scooping a crucial double-up just before heading off to enjoy the break.

Pernecita Applies Pressure to Take It Down

Level 4: 200 / 300 ante: 300

Ruby Pernecita opened to 700 from the lowjack and picked up two callers—Michael Truong in the cutoff and Nam Nguyen in the big blind.

The flop came A 3 4, and after Nguyen checked, Pernecita continued for 1,100. Truong made the call, while Nguyen got out of the way.

The 9 landed on the turn, and Pernecita kept up the aggression with a 2,200 bet. That was enough to force a fold from Truong and secure the pot.

Steenman Drags a Pot With Pocket Eights

Level 3: 100 / 200 ante: 200

Sewy Steenman opened the action with a raise to 600 from under the gun and picked up two callers: Pham Quoc Tuan in middle position and Sacha Bayard on the button.

The flop came 6 7 3, and after Steenman checked, Tuan fired out 1,000. Bayard quickly folded, and Steenman made the call.

The 3 hit the turn, and both players opted to check it through. The river brought the 5, and again, the action went check-check.

Steenman tabled 8 8 for an overpair, which was good enough to take down the pot after Tuan mucked his hand.
