Main Event Day 1A Kicks Off At 12pm

The first day of competition in the US$600,000 GTD (Event #4) Main Event takes flight today even as the second qualifying run for the US$100,000 GTD (Event #2) Mystery Bounty happens in a busy day at the Won Poker Cup II here at the luxurious Won Majestic Hotel in Sihanoukville, Cambodia.

The inaugural Main Event last July saw 404 entries vie for the then US$500,000 guaranteed prize pool. It was triumphed by China’s Ke Hong Jin and the top prize was US$97,100. Now the bar has been raised as the guarantee is at US$600,000 and is expected to draw the best from the region and international grinders hoping to etch their name in the annals of the fledgling festival.

Day 1A of the Main Event kicks off at 12NN (UCT+7) and has a buy-in of US$1,220.

Mystery Bounty Flight B ready for launch, Malaysia’s Loong Yuen tops Flight A

After drawing 41 entries in Flight A, the Mystery Bounty is expected to bring in an even larger field as it coincided with the finale for (Event #1) the Warm-Up and with many players opting to skip the Main Event’s Day 1A, they may use this their personal feeler for the field.

Loong Yuen of Malaysia led six qualifiers from Flight A which will have Flight B follow the same flight path: a starting stack of 25,000 using 30-minute levels and registration will remain open until the end of Level 10. After that, it will be determined how many advance to Day 2 and all who do make it through will be ITM.

Flight B starts at 2PM (UCT+7).

Taiwan’s Yu Lin captures Warm-Up event, Won Jung Sun of Korea wins Deepstack

Having taken down seven titles in his illustrious international career, Yu Lin got his first trophy in Cambodia by bagging the Mystery Bounty and with the top prize of US$24,000. Moments later, Yu—who has already amassed over US$250,000 in career live winnings—dove into the Mystery Bounty and became chip-leader at one point. Korea’s Kwak Minseung, a former professional StarCraft player, finished in second for US$15,000 while Vietnamese lady pro Quynh Thuy bagged third for US$8,900.

Over at (Event #3) the Deepstack tournament, another Korean in Wong Jungsun outlasted Quynh in their heads up battle for the crown when his 8 7 outkicked his Vietnamese opponent’s 7 5 holdings on a board of A 7 6 9 4 for the title and the US$1,310 top prize. Quynh had her second podium finish in three events and her runner-up placing netted her US$785. Kim Taeil of Korea finished in third for US$524.

Besides the two satellites for the Main Event bookending the two major undertakings, (Event #5) the Hyper Turbo+ takes flight at 7PM.
