Ha Van Thien and Xiong Sheng were in the hand. There was a pot of 1,700,000 in the middle beside a board that showed J♠ K♦ 8♦ 6♦ 7♦.

Thien checked his option and Sheng counted out a million chips to put past the betting line.

Thien went into deep thought and looked at the four diamonds on the board. Any diamond would win and he had black cards and only a pair jack. There was a king on the board. And there were many other possibilities. Thien threw some time-bank cards to give him more time for thought, to slow things down, to listen to the voices inside his gut telling him that chicken sandwiches are healthier than burgers. And out of nowhere, Thien announced "call" and threw a chip in the middle to make it official.

Sheng turned over two black cards for an ace-high, Thien's pair jack better enough to win a gigantic pot.

What a call.

Zhang Yankai raised to 355,000 from UTG+1. Ivan Lukianov three-bet re-raised to 410,000 from the hi-jack. Ha Van Thien just called from the cutoff and Yankai risked his last 355,000 all-in.

The flop came Q♠ 2♠ J♦ .

Lukianov bet out 100,000 but folded when Thien shoved all-in.

Two remained. Both Yankai and Thien flashed similar Ace-Queens which just the suits to differentiate. None of their cards were headed for a flush draw and they split the pot when the board completed with Thien picking up a little extra from Lukianov.

Zhang Yankai raised to 100,000 and called the three-bet re-raise to 300,000 by Ha Van Thien in the hijack. They were given a flop of T♥ 9♥ 4♣. Yankai checked and allowed Thien to bet all-in for 1,050,000.

Yankai examined the options and took a double-take at his hole cards before throwing a chip in to make the call.

Thien showed the queens which were way ahead. However, Yankai had a nut flush draw along with the aces. The turn came J♠, giving Yankai a pair and improving the outs. The river came 7♦ and Thien could breathe a sigh of relief to still be in the tournament, but with a healthier stack. Yankai became short stacked.
