Luong's Run Not Luong Enough

Level 26: 20,000 / 40,000 ante: 40,000

Qiang Bao Ho raised to 85,000 from under the gun and called the 800,000 all-in shove by Hoang Giang Luong for a showdown.

Luong's nines looked good, but Ho's jacks were prettier, and eventually prevailed until the end, sending Luong out of the tournament.

Vasquez Bursts Into Chip Lead

Level 26: 20,000 / 40,000 ante: 40,000

Andres Vasquez raised to 85,000 from under the gun and Hoang Giang Luong defended his big blind for a flop to open Q 5 T.

Luong led for 100,000 and Vasquez re-raised to 415,000. Luong took a moment, but made the call to see a 3 on the turn.

Luong knocked his option to Vasquez who fired 415,000. Luong again took a moment, but made the call to see a A on the river.

Luong bet all-in and Vasquez called, putting his 845,000 at risk.

Luong showed K 5 for a pair of fives while Vasquez flipped T T for a set of tens.

Vasquez crippled Luong and jumped into the chip leader throne.

Pham Minh Hung Is Saved By The River

Level 26: 20,000 / 40,000 ante: 40,000

Pham Minh Hung shoved his last 105,000 all-in from under the gun and was called by Hoang Giang Luong and Andres Vasquez.

Both checked down the T T K flop, but when the 3 came on the turn, Luong fired 200,000 and Vasquez stayed away.

Luong peeled the jacks and was ahead. Hung showed his Ace-Nine off and didn't look to pleased. Hung was resigned to leave his seat, but the poker gods and the dealer showed an A on the river to give him a triple up and a chance to stay alive.

Luong Eliminates Tran

Level 25: 15,000 / 30,000 ante: 30,000
Hoang Giang Luong

Minh Thang Tran raised to 60,000 from UTG+1 and was re-raised to 200,000 by Hoang Giang Luong in the lo-jack. Tran then shoved all-in for 885,000. Luong went into the tank, analyzed possible stack damage, looked at his cards, riffled some chips, threw in three time-bank cards, thought why Americans changed "football" to "soccer" and then threw in a chip to make the call.

The flop gave Luong top pair for the overtake. The turn improved Luong to a set, but Tran still had outs. When the river threw a brick, Luong could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Luong's stacked jumped to the higher part of the chip count leaderboard while Tran's name was crossed out of the tournament roster.

USOP Hai Phong Grand Finale Madness Kickoff Day 1C Chip Leader Yuan Xu

The USOP Hai Phong Grand Finale made history with the Madness Kickoff flight Day1C as the most entries for a single flight in an opening event with 606. Of the 606 contenders, only the top 76 would qualify for a bag to keep their chips and bring it to tomorrow's Day 2 Final.

Leading the flight with the largest stack was Yuan Xu of China, who built a stack of 647,000 from a starting stack of 25,000 chips. Second in rank was Vietnam's Hoang Giang Luong with 568,000 with Nhat Duong Hoang rounding up the top three of the flight, sitting on 521,000 chips.

The 76 qualifiers are guaranteed a minimum payout from the prize pool, which was speculated to already go beyond the VND 10,000,000,000 (~USD 400,000) because of the Day 1C attendance. The Day 1D total entries will be adding gravy to a juicy prize pool and all that's left to do is what for the final numbers.
