Main Event

The final two starting days of the inaugural Super Cup Seoul 2024 Main Event at the COEX Convention & Exhibition Center have been completed and the overall field was boosted to 248 entries. This has generated a prize pool of KRW 248 Million (~USD 177,284), which is set to be shared among the top 38 finishers.

Day 1c turned out to be the largest by a small margin inside of "The Platz" with 79 entries and it also finished the quickest, concluding with around ten minutes left in level 14 after several rapid-fire eliminations during the late stages. Only 12 players advanced and Sungwon Seo topped the leaderboard with 337,000 in chips. He was responsible for two of the late casualties while second-placed Tsukasa Endo (295,000) burst the bubble after dashing out a bad beat with ace-four against the ace-queen of fellow countryman "EZ".

Jaeseok Sim finished just one big blind behind Endo on 290,000 and Longhao Shen also bagged up a big stack with 259,000 as well. Notables to make it through from Day 1c include Min Hyeong Lee (191,000), Jin Wook Lee (191,000), Won Beom Seo (176,000) and Tetsuya Fujiwara (121,000).

While the penultimate starting flight was not as kind to Xu Chen from China, he bagged up the biggest stack in the turbo heat 1d as one of four survivors. Chen's 332,000 put him in fifth place overall, Takeshi Odawara also sneaked into the top ten with 295,000 as well. Hyunwoo Bang (79,000) and Junhyeong Ha (74,000) were the other two to make it through, while Woongbin Kim lost a flip to Chen on the bubble.

It wouldn't be an end of day report without a victory for Nana Nakamura either. She opted to skip the Main Event and entered the Isabelle Ladies Event, which attracted a total of 33 entries. However, Nakamura bowed out before the final table only to then come out on top of 22 entries in Event #14 Win the Button (Hyper Turbo) for her third trophy and top prize of KRW 4.3 Million!

The 38 Day 1 survivors in the Main Event will return to their seats at 11 a.m. local time with the remainder of level 14 to be played at blinds of 2,000-4,000 with a big blind ante of 4,000. For the rest of Day 2, the levels will last 50 minutes each and the penultimate tournament day will conclude once the final nine players have been determined. The action will also be streamed with cards-up coverage on a 30-minute delay on the Super Cup YouTube channel as well.

Longhao Shen has been taking over control of table seven by gaining a lot of smaller pots, the latest of which came against Won Beom Seo. On the Q♥ J♣ 2♣ 9♠ 4♦ river, Seo checked and reluctantly folded when Shen bet 20,000.

Shen raised it up the next hand and Cheolwon Park forfeited his big blind and big blind ante off a severe short stack. Most big stacks can be found on table seven.

While the Isabelle Ladies Event is currently on break with 19 players out of 35 entries remaining, another tournament is close to reach the conclusion for this evening. The turbo heat 1d of the Main Event closed with a field of 26 entries and that is already whittled down to only seven hopefuls. Four of them will advance to join the other 34 survivors of the previous flights, including the dozen of Day 1c.

Sungwon Seo three-bet against the table chip leader Tsukasa Endo and then bet the T♠ 9♥ 7♠ flop for 20,000, Endo folded.

Shortly after that, EZ defended against Endo and check-called for 6,000 on the A♥ T♥ 6♣ flop. They checked the 4♣ turn and T♠ river for EZ to win the pot with A♦ 5♥ for aces and tens.

The final 19 players have been sent on a scheduled 15-minute break. Once the next contender bows out, they will combine to two tables and the Shot Clock comes into play. Day 1c will conclude with the top 12 finishers advancing.

Hyunsoo Kim got his short stack into the middle with K♦ 3♦ and was up against the 5♦ 5♣ of Manwoo Park. The T♠ 7♦ 3♥ T♦ turn was a tease but the 4♥ river bricked.

One table over, Japan's "EZ" doubled with ace-queen against the king-queen of Kiwook Kang, while Vivi from Japan also doubled his short stack on another table.

Hyunsoo Kim defended his big blind against Longhao Shen and check-called the Q♣ 9♥ 7♠ flop for 10,000. After the 2♦ turn, they both checked and Kim checked again the T♠ on the river. Shen bet 17,000 and Kim reluctantly paid it off to expose Q♥ 6♦ for top pair once Shen revealed his K♥ Q♦ for the superior kicker.

Soon after losing a portion of his stack, Geunpil Go was sent to the rail when his stack shy of the average moved over one spot to Manwoo Park. It was a classic flip with the K♣ J♥ for Go and the 9♥ 9♦ for Park.

The 6♦ 4♥ 2♠ 9♠ 3♣ board gave Park an unbeatable set on the turn. This was the second elimination in the last few minutes on this table as another short stack had also departed.

On a heads-up flop of 7♦ 5♣ 2♥ in a battle of the blinds, Hyunsoo Kim checked and subsequently check-raised from 7,000 to 20,000 against Longhao Shen. The latter came along before they ended up checking down the 2♦ turn and A♥ river.

Kim tabled K♦ T♣ for a bluff and Shen won the pot with 8♣ 7♣ for eights and deuces.

Left short after a double for Sungwon Seo, Yoonkyu Choi was all-in for the last 6,000. He earned calls from Shingo Ito and Qingjun Wu, who checked down the entire board of T♥ 7♠ 6♦ 8♣ Q♦ .

Choi tabled 9♦ 2♦ for a straight, which beat the K♥ Q♣ and K♠ Q♠ of his opponents.

Heads-up to the 7♣ 6♠ 5♥ A♦ 7♦ river, chip leader Jaeseok Sim checked in the hijack. Manwoo Park bet 8,000 on the button and Sim tank-called. There was no showdown, as Park mucked to forfeit the pot.

There are currently 27 players remaining and the action slowed down significantly.

Another short stack from South Korea got the chips into the middle, this time with the turn showing A♣ J♠ T♦ A♠ . Jaeseom Sim happily called with A♥ 5♥ and needed to dodge a king only versus Q♦ J♥ . The river brought the 9♦ and the next seat open was confirmed, as the rich got richer.

A short stack was all-in after the K♥ 7♠ 5♥ 8♥ turn and tabled the 8♦ 7♦ in showdown, up against Kiwook Kang with the 7♥ 3♥ for a made flush. The player at risk had some outs to a full house but the 3♣ river was a blank.

Shortly after, the table then lost Jingon Kim to Tsukasa Endo, who jumped up the leaderboard.

Big stack Jaeseok Sim bet the A♠ Q♠ 3♣ 5♠ 2♥ river with a four-card straight and flush possible while in the big blind. Manwoo Park called after brief consideration and mucked after he was shown 7♠ 6♠ for the flush.

On the tail end of a A♣ J♣ 8♠ 3♦ J♥ board, EZ in the big blind made it 19,000 to go into a pot of around 50,000. Qingjun Wu on the button tank-called and mucked when the player from Japan showed his 3♣ 3♥ for a turned set and rivered full house.

Man Woo Park faced one limper and then raised to 8,500, which forced out the limper. He then opened to 3,000 soon after and Jong Ju Park made it a massive 15,000 to go. The fold followed and the three-bettor showed K♥ K♣ before collecting the pot.

Wonhyo Kim departed soon after the dinner break and Japan's "EZ" then took on Yoonkyu Choi, who check-called for 12,000 on the A♥ K♠ 4♦ 2♠ turn. On the T♣ river, Choi led for 17,000 and EZ folded.

One hand later, Sungwon Seo raised to 3,500 from under the gun and earned two calls. The flop came A♠ 4♦ 3♠ and Choi check-folded when Seo bet 10,000.

The total number of entries with 79 has remained the same during the dinner break and 34 players are back in action now. With the start of level ten, the late registration has closed.

Any poker enthusiasts still interested in joining the event can do so in the turbo heat 1d, which is currently up to 20 entries with 19 players remaining at the end of level four. All players bowing out from Day 1d can also go straight back in, too.

Nine levels of 40 minutes each have been completed and the 79 entries of Day 1c have been whittled down to the last 34 contestants. Whether or not either figure will change remains to be seen as the registration is still open until the action resumes at 6.30 p.m. local time.

In the Isabelle Ladies Event, there are 20 players out of 22 entries remaining while the Turbo Heat 1d is up to 12 entries in level two.

The cards of Jintae Yang were already in the muck and he quickly gathered his belongings before heading out of the tournament area. Jaeseok Sim swept up the remainder of his short stack with the A♥ 9♦ which made top pair on the 7♠ 5♥ 3♥ 8♥ 9♣ runout.

Jaeseok Sim picked up a suited A♣ 5♣ to knock out a shorter stack when he turned the nut flush draw and rivered a straight on the 7♦ 6♣ 4♥ Q♣ 8♦ board.

At almost the same time, Wonhyo Kim doubled with K♦ 9♠ versus Q♠ J♥ thanks to a board of 6♣ 6♦ 5♠ 7♥ K♥ to get back to the starting stack.

The field came out swinging in the opening levels with a lot of action and has since attracted 79 entries, of which 41 players currently remain. That is the largest attendance in the three heats by a small margin and may grow further with the late registration open until the start of level ten.

In the meanwhile, the Isabelle Ladies Event is underway with 15 players out of 16 entries remaining and Nana Nakamura opted for this over the Main Event as of right now. That may change, however, as the Turbo Day 1d is also set to kick off if there are at least five entries any time soon.

In a three-way all-in, Jaeseok Sim had a mountain to climb with A♦ K♦ versus K♠ K♥ and the Q♣ Q♥ of Longhao Shen. The board ran out Q♦ 9♦ 2♣ 6♣ 4♦ and the suited ace-king spiked a flush to essentially triple up.

In a preflop duel over on table five, the chips went into the middle preflop and Jingon Kim had the best of it with A♣ A♥ versus T♣ T♠ . There was no upset on the 7♦ 5♥ 4♣ 2♥ 8♥ and Kim doubled. He won a Turbo Side Event already and is a well-known comedian in South Korea.

In a three-bet pot with 12,000 each going to the J♦ T♦ 7♥ flop, Hanbin Kim and Sungwon Seo checked. Kim bet the J♥ turn for 7,000 to earn a fold and flashed the A♥ A♠ . In the next hand, Seo tangled with Kim again and the latter bet the T♣ 9♣ 2♠ flop to flash A♥ A♣ with a smirk.

There was a squeeze to 4,400 in front of Manwoo Park out of the small blind and he looked up a shorter stack with Q♥ Q♣ versus A♠ J♥ . Only one jack came on the K♠ J♣ 3♦ 3♣ K♦ board and Park earned the knockout with the superior two pair.

On a board of A♠ 6♦ 3♣ J♠ 7♥ , both Kiwook Kang and Jin Wook Lee flopped a set. The 6♣ 6♠ of Kang was ahead versus 3♦ 3♥ all the way and he took a large bite out of Lee's large stack.

Down to only 9,100 in chips, Wonhyo Kim got it in with the J♦ 9♥ and was up against A♣ 4♣ . The board ran out T♥ 8♣ 7♣ A♦ 4♦ and the flopped straight dodged all the clubs.

Qingjun Wu raised to 1,800 from under the gun and Min Hyeong Lee three-bet to 5,000 in the next seat. The big blind called and Wu made it three ways to the K♠ 4♦ 3♥ flop, where it checked to Lee. His continuation bet of 4,000 was check-called once as Wu folded.

On the A♦ turn, the action checked to Lee and he bet another 14,000 to eventually force a very reluctant fold.

Sungwon Seo was the early chip leader and has lost some of his initial profit, but he still has nearly two times the average at his disposal. In a larger three-bet pot to the A♦ J♠ T♠ flop right now, it checked to him and Seo bet 10,500 to take down the pot uncontested.

Tetsuya Fujiwara raised to 1,800 from under the gun and Kiwook Kang called in the cutoff. The Q♣ T♦ 8♠ flop and 3♣ turn were checked. Fujiwara bet the K♥ river for 2,600 and Kang called, then didn't need to show any cards to win the pot as Fujiwara mucked to forfeit his ambitions.

Hyunsoo Kim faced an open raise to 1,600 by the cutoff, he three-bet to 4,500 on the button. His opponent called and checked the K♠ 4♥ 3♠ flop for Kim to bet 5,000. That was all it took to win the pot right there.

Manwoo Park defended the big blind against a button raise by Jihwan Park and check-called the T♠ 8♥ 2♠ flop for 2,000. He did so again for 4,500 on the Q♦ turn and the 5♦ river was checked. The bigger stack showed the T♥ 3♥ and it was good to further boost the current chip leader.

With a field of 70 entries so far, there are only 46 players remaining after a frantic opening stage in the first six levels. All those with chips at their disposal have been sent on a scheduled 15-minute break.

With 2,100 three ways on the Q♦ J♥ T♣ flop invested, the 4♦ turn was checked. Won Beom Seo also checked the 3♦ river and another player did so, too. Jong Ju Park now bet 9,500 and his two opponents folded for Park to show A♦ 8♦ for the rivered nut flush.

With around 17,000 in the middle to the T♣ 7♥ 5♥ 9♠ turn, Jihwan Kim checked out of the big blind. Japan's Yosuke Itok bet 12,500 only for Kim to move all-in with his large stack. Itok went deep into the tank and the clock was called on him. Thirty seconds ran down to zero and his hand was dead.

Two players limped in and Byungho Jeon then jammed for 7,300. Kyoshiro from Japan jammed over the top for 10,200 on the button, the limpers folded. Jeon's A♦ K♣ were up against T♣ 9♠ and there was a mighty sweat on the 8♣ 7♠ 3♠ Q♥ K♥ board.

Kyoshiro then doubled with 9♠ 8♥ versus Q♦ T♣ thanks to a flopped straight versus Hoe Seok Kim. He got it in with A♥ 6♦ versus Jeon's Q♣ T♠ and the A♣ J♣ 4♠ 9♣ A♠ board gave the Japanese another double.

Four ways to the T♣ 9♠ 5♥ flop, it checked to Geunpil Go and he bet 2,200. Three players called and the A♠ followed on the turn. It checked to Go again and he bet 8,000. Si-Jin Park reluctantly called with only 5,200 behind, then folded the 2♣ river when Go bet 10,000.

Taehong ha was eliminated and Yohan Trens followed suit, then walked over to Jaejoon Yang to spill the beans. Yang was involved in a heads-up pot to the J♥ 6♦ 2♦ 6♣ 5♦ river on which he called a bet of 2,500 by Kiwook Kang.

The latter turned over Ace-Nine but Yang won the pot with the 8♣ 8♥ .

"Queens against five-seven, he turned a straight," Trens told Yang after the hand.

On the tail end of a heads-up pot to the 8♣ 7♠ 7♦ Q♠ 3♣ river, Soobin Chun bet 11,000. He only had to get through one of the early chip leaders and Sungwon Seo indeed folded. For Chun, it is the second bullet for Day 1c after the first attempt was of rather torrid nature.

The Day 1c field has climbed to 54 entries and the early shenanigans have reduced that number of contenders to 43 already. Among the most notable names jumping in lately was well-known Korean comedian Wonhyo Kim, sporting a more casual blue hoodie outfit today.

One player was already all-in after the J♣ J♥ 5♥ flop to receive two calls and the 3♦ turn then brought the shove by Tetsuya Fujiwara, which Kiwook Kang called with the covering stack.

The at-risk player showed Q♥ 7♥ for a flush draw, up against Fujiwara with Q♣ J♦ and Kang who held the J♠ T♥ for the same trips but weaker kicker. The river was the 6♦ and Fujiwara won the main and side pot.

In a preflop duel, EZ from Japan and Youngsuk Kim got their chips in with the former at risk for 25,400. Their Q♦ Q♠ were up against Kim's A♠ A♣ and scored the sucker punch on the 5♦ 3♠ 2♣ K♥ Q♥ runout to leave Kim short and with a bad beat story to tell.

Chip leader at the table is Sungwon Seo with more than three times the starting stack.

With 3,000 in the middle to the J♦ 9♦ 5♣ flop, Taehong Ha was all-in for only 6,100 with the A♦ 8♦ for the nut flush draw. Table chip leader Gosuke looked him up with the T♣ 8♠ for the open-ended straight draw but couldn't get there on the 6♣ turn and 2♦ river.

Jintae Yang raised to 1,000 and received three callers in Yohan Trens, Yongjong Lee and Kazuma Sekine. The A♦ Q♥ 4♠ flop is checked before Lee bet the K♥ turn for 1,300 and the K♣ river for 4,200. Only Yang called both times and won the pot with J♥ T♥ as Lee had the K♠ 6♠ for trips.

Down to just 6,200 after a rough spell at the tables of late, Gyungmin Lee pushed all-in from under the gun with the 3♦ 3♠ . The cutoff jams over the top with K♠ T♦ and the mighty pair holds on a A♣ 6♠ 5♣ 6♦ Q♦ runout.

The opening stages of the third flight have been promising with up to 39 entries, of which 35 players remain. They are now on their first scheduled 15-minute break of the day.

On his third table of the day, Sangjik Lee took on Geunpil Go and checked the 7♠ 6♠ 2♠ Q♥ turn. Go bet 4,300 only to get check-raised to 10,300 total. That sent Go into the tank and he eventually ended up folding, dropping to fewer than half the starting stack.

Youngjong Lee had made the final two tables last night but bowed out just shy of reaching Day 2. His next attempt has been off to a decent start as he knocked out an opponent over on table seven. On a board of J♦ 8♠ 7♥ 6♠ Q♣ , his 6♦ 6♥ for a turned set of sixes prevailed against K♦ J♥ and that bumped up his stack nicely.

It didn't take long for Soobin Chun to get his chips into the middle and the one collecting the rest of it was Hwangbae Kim. On a board of K♣ 6♥ 2♦ 10d 3♦ , the K♥ T♣ of Kim was best versus 9♥ 6♣ and Chun quickly left the tournament area.

On the tail end of a Q♠ 6♦ 2♠ T♦ J♠ board, Jin Wook Lee checked and Jaejoon Yang bet 8,000. He was then check-raised for most of Lee's stack and reluctantly called only to muck versus A♣ K♣ for broadway.

Soobin Chun called a three-bet and then bet 2,500 on the 8♥ 5♣ 2♦ flop when checked to by his opponent "Gosuke". The player from Japan bet the 5♦ turn for 5,000 and the A♠ river for 13,600, keeping one T-5,000 chip behind.

Chun called but mucked when he was shown 8♠ 8♣ for a full house. He then lost another pot post flop and dropped down even further.

Three ways to the 9♥ 9♦ 5♠ J♦ turn, one of the VIPs with the alias EZ check-called for 3,500. The 3♦ on the river slowed things down as the trio of players checked. EZ was the second to show and his T♣ 9♣ for trips nines won the pot, beating A♦ J♥ and K♠ K♣ in the process.

The field has expanded to more than 30 entries and not just one but two new tables opened in quick succession. Tetsuya Fujiwara entered followed shortly thereafter by Won Beom Seo and Yohan Trens, the latter two sitting next to each other over on table seven.

Three ways to the 8♥ 8♣ 5♠ flop, a player by the alias "Tetu" moved all-in for the last 8,000. He forced one fold but Jihwan Kim called with the T♠ T♥ . The overpair was up against 7♠ 6♣ and the straight never came on the 5♣ turn and K♣ river runout.

In a heavily loaded pot of more than 26,000 to the 8♣ 7♦ 4♠ 6♥ turn, the only female player in the field thus far jammed all-in. Sungwon Seo in the next seat gave it some thought and called.

His Q♠ Q♦ was up against T♦ T♠ and the gutshot never came as the 7♥ river completed the board.

On a heads-up turn of K♥ 7♣ 4♣ T♥ , Sangjik Lee invested another 3,000 to earn a call and then both players checked the 6♣ on the river. Lee tabled his 7♥ 7♠ and the set was good enough to win the pot.

Mid-way through the second level, the field has increased to 16 entries and they are spread evenly across the two tables. Latest notable to join the action was Jaejoon Yang, who is going for attempt number three after the bullets on Day 1a and Day 1b were not crowned by success.

In a heads-up pot to the Q♥ 7♣ 3♦ T♠ turn, Sangjik Lee called a bet worth 1,000 and they both checked the 7♦ on the river. Lee was shown ace-jack for a missed gutshot and won the pot with the J♦ T♥ for tens and sevens, finally earning back some of the chips he had lost early on.

Three ways to the Q♦ J♥ 7♦ K♠ turn, the action checked to Gyungmin Lee on the button and he bet 1,500. Only Jin Wook Lee in the big blind called and they checked the Q♣ on the river. One Lee showed the A♦ 6♦ for the busted nut flush draw but the early momentum belonged to the other with the T♦ 9♥ for the bottom end of the straight.

Hwangbae Kim bet the 5♦ 4♥ 2♠ turn for 700 and Sangjik Lee called. Kim bet the Q♥ turn for 1,000 and called a raise to 3,000, then checked the A♠ river. Lee checked behind and mucked when he was shown A♣ 5♥ for two pair.
