After a massive field of 2,387 entries more than doubled the initial guarantee, it was the Philippines' own Kim Enriquez who emerged victorious, navigating the final table to claim the trophy and a total prize of PHP 1,874,700.

For Enriquez, the victory marks a significant milestone in his career. While he has been a consistent presence on the Asian circuit, this win represents his first major title since before the pandemic. His last 1st-place finish came back in July 2019 at APT Ho Chi Minh, making this a long-awaited return to the winner's circle.

Enriquez defeated India’s Nikhil Gutta in a back-and-forth heads-up battle. Following an ICM deal made during three-handed play, the trio locked up the majority of the PHP 16,300,346 prize pool, leaving PHP 300,000, the trophy, and an APPT Championship Package for the winner.

Enriquez's Reaction to the Win

For Enriquez, the victory was about more than just the prize money; it was about breaking a cycle of close calls. "I’m overwhelmed and happy," Enriquez said after the win. "I've had so many second-place finishes lately, so I’m glad I finally clinched it. It's very special because my last championship win was way back before the pandemic. I’ve made so many final tables where I didn't get the win, but now at last, finally."

Enriquez credited his success to maintaining control of the table once he secured the lead. "As the chip leader, I was focused on controlling the table. I study how to play against different players when I have that advantage. Luckily, I also had some pocket aces that got paid off."

When the tournament reached the final three, Enriquez felt the timing was right to secure a deal. "Our stacks were almost even. By agreeing to the ICM, we still left 300k and the APPT seat to play for, so it felt worth it."

His immediate plans? "Relax for now, pay the bills, and save some for the bankroll," he laughed. "Then I’ll start preparing for the APPT in two months."

Final Table Action

The final table began with Joshua Figuerres holding the chip lead, but the action was fast from the start. On the very first hand, Kim Enriquez moved into the lead by taking a massive pot off Nikhil Gutta after rivering a full house with king-queen.

The eliminations followed quickly. Nichols Manalo was the first to exit in 9th place when his pocket sixes were outdrawn by Gutta’s ace-queen. Germany’s Dominik Doublon fell in 8th place, unable to catch up with ace-six against Gutta's ace-ten.

Joseph Sia was left with less than one big blind after losing a flip with ace-queen against Ko Tanaka's pocket tens. Sia was eliminated in 7th place shortly after by Sungmoon You. Kevin Mateo exited in 6th place when his ace-three ran into Gutta’s flopped set of fives, and Sungmoon You finally hit the rail in 5th place at the hands of Figuerres.

Royal Flush and The Deal

A massive three-way confrontation saw Gutta’s pocket aces hold against Tanaka’s pocket queens and Figuerres’ ace-queen. This sent Ko Tanaka home in 4th place and brought the remaining three players close in chips.

The trio agreed to an ICM deal before play resumed. Soon after, Gutta made the hand of a lifetime, fanning a Royal Flush with king-queen of diamonds to take a massive pot from Figuerres. Figuerres, once the dominant leader, was eventually eliminated in 3rd place when his ace-four fell to Gutta's pocket fours.

Heads-Up

Gutta started heads-up play with a 4-to-1 advantage, but the lead didn't last. Enriquez doubled up on the very first hand with ace deuce against pocket queens. The momentum swung fully toward Enriquez when he used an aggressive all-in check-raise to force a fold from Gutta on a king-high board.

Enriquez eventually found pocket kings at the perfect time to score a massive double-up, leaving Gutta with crumbs. The final hand saw Enriquez’s queen-seven hold against Gutta’s queen-four, ending a seven-year wait for a major trophy and crowning Kim Enriquez the champion.
