Main Event (1,300,000 KRW)

After three days, 36 levels and outlasting a field of 1228, Chun Lung Wong emerged as the new winner of the Korean Poker Cup Series 2025 Main Event, taking home the biggest share of the KRW 1,304,160,000 (~$914,360) prize pool.

"I feel very excited. I feel nervous and happy! It’s like I’m feeling everything at once. I’m just really happy today."

He started the day only 2 BBs behind the chip leader Chen Yu Sung who was seated to his left resulting in a lot of clashes between the two. Playing very aggressive and taking advantage of the ICM pressures from the smaller stacks he was able to build a substantial lead - aided by the knockouts of Daqiao Jiang in 6th, Yuan Qin in 5th and Yao Zhao in 4th - that saw him enter the heads up against Weiwi Tang as a 2 to 1 favorite.

Before playing any hands, the two agreed to an ICM deal that guaranteed Wong KRW 181,355,000 (~$127,149) and Tang KRW 160,000,000 (~$112,177) with an additional KRW 19,385,000 (~$13,591) left to play for.

The first hand of the heads-up reversed their roles after a preflop showdown with Wong having K♠ J♣ against Tang's A♣ 5♣ got decided by the board 6♦ 2♠ 9♥ 3♦ A♠ . His stack further took a dip when he tried to bluff Tang with K♥ 8♦ on T♠ 5♦ J♠ 2♦ Q♦ for half his stack, but Tang was sitting on K♦ 7♦ and shoved.

"There was a straight on the board, and I had the King and one diamond. I thought I had to go for it. Unfortunately, he shoved all-in and I didn’t win."

A few hands later he doubled up with 7♥ 7♣ against Tang's J♠ 9♦ that saw the two on equal footing again. A few more hands after that - on hand #171 of the final table - he took the victory with A♥ 8♠ against Tang's K♦ Q♦ preflop all-in with all blanks on the board.

SMP: Congratulations on winning the KPC Main Event. How do you feel right now?

Wong: I feel very excited. I feel nervous… and happy! It’s like I’m feeling everything at once. I’m just really happy today.

SMP: Nice! So, is this your first win?

Wong: Uh, no. This is my third win in a live event. But this is my first time winning the main event, so it's definitely the biggest one so far.

SMP: Biggest cash too?

Wong: Yes, biggest cash!

SMP: So, what are you going to do with your prize?

Wong: I’ll probably buy some Bitcoin, and save the rest… maybe for more poker!

SMP: Haha, nice! Is this your first time in Jeju?

Wong: Yeah, it’s my first time in Korea.

SMP: What can you say about the venue, the tournament, the place?

Wong: Everything is very nice. The people are nice, the field is great, and the beach is beautiful. Everything’s really nice here.

SMP: Let’s talk about some hands. Do you remember the one where you had King-Eight, and there was a possible flush on the board?

Wong: Yeah, I remember.

SMP: What was going through your mind in that hand?

Wong: There was a straight on the board, and I had the King and one diamond. I thought I had to go for it. Unfortunately, he shoved all-in and didn’t win.

SMP: You had a good stack before the final table, right? You were very aggressive. I watched you on the stream—your range was very wide. Was that part of your strategy?

Wong: Yes, that was the strategy for the final table.

SMP: Alright, so this was your first Main Event win. When did you start playing poker?

Wong: I started about five or six years ago. I used to play cash games all night and small tournaments. At first, I didn’t even really know how to play. I thought I was good, but obviously, I lost a lot in the beginning. Then, around two years ago, I started to take it seriously, studying MTTs and focusing more. This year, I went full-time.

SMP: How do you study and practice?

Wong: I play a lot online, and I save a lot of hand histories. Then I review them, think about my decisions, and work on adjusting my ranges depending on the spot. I try to improve how I approach different situations.

SMP: So what’s next for your poker career? Where are you heading after this?

Wong: I don’t have a set plan yet, but probably APT Taiwan next.

Both players miss the board 6♦ J♠ 3♠ 9♦ 7♥ completely, leaving Chun Wong with all the chips and both players with the biggest wins in their poker careers.

Hand #159-161: One walk and a raise to pick up the blinds later, Chun Wong is at it again, making 1,500,000 from the button and Weiwi Tang fills up. The flop comes 3♦ 8♥ 8♦ and Wong takes it down with a 3,000,000 c-bet.

Hand #154: Chun Wong limps and Weiwi Tang opts to check for the flop J♠ T♣ 5♦ . Tang check-calls a 600,000 bet to see the turn 2♦ that has both players check and the board completes Q♦ . Tang forks out another 2,400,000 after consuming two time banks before Wong responds with a raise to 8,000,000, also using a time bank. Tang jams and and Wong snap folds, leaving himself 11 BBs to work with.

Hand #146-153: Chun put his foot back on the gas, winning the majority of a few preflop exchanges and two post flop hands.

Hand #139-145: A few skirmishes later with not much changing in the chip counts Weiwi Tang limps and fills up after Chun Wong pumped it to 1,200,000 to watch the flop hit 5♦ T♦ 6♠ . Wong's 2,000,000 continuation gets called to the turn 9♣ that gets checked down to the river 4♠ with Tang showing the winner 7♦ 6♥ against Wong's Q♦ J♣ .

Hand #136-138: After winning two small pots post flop, Chun Wong attacks again with a 650,000 raise and Weiwi Tang defends to see the flop Q♠ 8♦ 2♦ where he fires a 400,000 c-bet and Tang check-calls to the turn Q♥ . Another 2,400,000 is called by Tang to complete the board 2♠ where Wong jams 8,550,000 and takes down the pot.

Both players decided to look at the ICM numbers and agreed to make a deal. Chun Wong will take home KRW 181,355,000 (~$127,149) and Weiwi Tang banks KRW 160,000,000 (~$112,177) leaving an additional KRW 19,385,000 (~$13,591) for the winner. Blind intervals are cut down to 15 minutes as well.

With only five outs left, Tang needs some serious help which arrives on the river 8♥ delivering a huge blow and a knockout to Chen Sung.

Hand #130: Chun Wong fills up small blind and Chen Sung opts for a check, the flop A♣ K♦ 7♦ has Wong scoop the pot with a 300,000 lead.

Hand #131: Chen Sung jams 5,600,000 from the small blind to pick up the blinds.

Hand #133: Another blind battle between Wong and Sung starts again with a limp and a check to see the flop A♦ 3♦ 4♥ where Wong check-calls a 300,000 bet. the turn T♦ gets checked to the river K♦ and Wong's 300,000 lead takes it down.

The roller coaster begins with Zhao out-flopping Wong on 7♣ Q♠ A♥ before Wong takes back the lead on 7♠ and sealing the knockout on the river 2♥ .

Hand #119: Chun Wong leads 500,000 from the button and big blind Weiwi Tang defends to see the flop 7♠ 5♣ K♣ where Wong takes it down with a 350,000 c-bet.

Hand #116: Under the gun Chun Wong raises to 500,000 with A♥ 8♦ , but makes a correct fold when faced with a 1,200,000 three bet from Chen Sung holding A♣ T♠ .

Hand #117: Yao Zhao open jams 5,000,000 with A♣ 7♣ out of the small blind and scoops.

Hand #118: UTG Weiwi Tang ups it to 550,000 and big blind Chen Sung defends to see the flop 4♠ 8♣ 9♣ that gets checked to the turn Q♥ . Sung leads 600,000 and Tang calls to complete the board Q♠ . Sung consumes a time bank before sliding 700,000 over the line, Tang also needs a time bank before raising to 2,200,000 that has Sung contemplating. Two more time banks later he calls with J♠ 8♠ , but has to surrender the pot to Tang's K♠ Q♦ .

Zhao check-calls another 1,800,000 to complete the board K♥ where Wong makes the triple barrel bluff complete for 12,000,000 having nine high. The inaugural Korea Poker Cup series taking place at Landing Casino inside the luxurious Jeju Shinhwa World Resort continues with the Final 8 of the Main Event after a total of 1228 entries during the opening flights went down to 149 that started Day 2 yesterday where that number shrunk to 8 at the end of level 28.

The total prize pool - sitting at KRW 1,304,160,000 (~$914,360) - ballooned to almost double the GTD with the majority still left to be divided among the Final 8. Everyone taking a seat today will have KRW 21,400,000 (~$15,060) secured and a chance to hoist the trophy, taking home the top prize of KRW 216,500,000 (~$152,345).

Chen Yu Sung finished in the lead yesterday after starting Day 2 with 41 BB and first appearing on the leaderboard in 2nd during level 23. From then on he used his monster stack to bully and knocked out several players along the way which left him with 9,915,000 (99 BB).

2nd in chips Chun Lung Wong started Day 2 as chip leader after dominating Flight D and went on a tear late in the game trading the lead with Chen Yu Sung several times, busting Xiangyu Zhao in 14th and Taiwanese Pro Chi Jen Chu in 10th during the last level. He will start the final day almost equal to the lead with 9,700,000 (97 BB)

Weiwi Tang came in 3rd with 7,220,000 (72 BB), ending Day 2 by eliminating Shuangchun Mou in 9th - adding almost 30 big blinds on the buzzer.

Sin Lan Chen - the last woman standing - is the only one with an average stack of 39 BB, who will be feeling the ICM pressure the most with four players having 18 BB or less among the Final 8.
