First Major Title For Chung Tang Lin At KPC 2 Main Event
"I’m so so happy! I’m happy to say there is finally a champion photo in which I’m not in the back as one of the champion’s friends'! It’s my first main event trophy. I’m so grateful that I didn’t have to wait three to five years to have the first main event trophy, like other players on average. The trophy looks so nice, so I will figure out a way to put it on a display shelf in my room."
After reaching an ICM heads up deal, poker vlogger Chung Tang Lin came from behind to defeat Cheng Huang to clinch the title, trophy, and an extra KR₩ 9,000,000 for a total payout of KR₩ 183,990,000 (~US$ 132,527). In a post win interview, Lin shared some insights into his game,
How did you hear about the event and how do you like the series and the Landing Casino?
I have a bunch of friends who are also from Taiwan. They have played KPC before. It’s my first KPC and I just love it!
How did you prepare mentally and physically for a marathon event like this?
I just tried my best to enjoy the game and the event itself. I think KPC Main Event’s blind structure is great. I had a lots of fun playing this Main Event.
We’ve seen you taking a video while playing, are you vlogging? if yes how long are you been vlogging?
Yes, I am a vlogger and I have my own YouTube and Instagram channels. I have been doing this vlog thing for two years. I used to work in animation so making videos is easy for me. I’m happy with sharing my life in poker and I’m grateful that my followers like my content.
What was the most memorable hand or moment from the tournament?
There are two hands that are the most crucial. One is from when the heads-up just started, in which I had Q3. The flop came out as J-Q-K in which he bet and I called. The turn card was a two, and the river a very important card - a queen. That pot was monstrous and the queen in river helped me - my opponent had K3 - so after this hand, our stacks were in near amounts. The other hand is when I open-raised with 83o, and the flop was A-2-2, in which I had nothing. I bluffed ang got called by him. Then the turn was an eight, in which we both checked, only to see the river card was another eight! He made a huge river-bet, and I re-raised to around five million because I thought I had nuts. He called and showed a two in his hand. After these two hands, I got a huge chip lead.
What was your plan going into the final table?
Since I didn’t have much chips when the final table started, I chose not to play junk hands or marginal hands. The strongest starting hand I played before I began to act was A9o, as I remember. And I folded that hand after someone 3-bet. So in general, I was waiting for the right hand and the right time.
How did your outlook on the heads-up change after making the deal then winning the first seven hands after? Take us inside your mind at that point.
To be honest, there was not much going on in my head. I’m just really grateful that I ran really good.
