Day 1A of the Red Dragon Championship featuring a KRW 2,500,000 (~US$1,780) buy in and a record breaking KRW 1,650,000,000 (~US$1.18 million) guarantee at Les A Casino (formerly Landing Casino) has officially wrapped up. Out of 225 total entries, only 57 players made it through to Day 2, which resumes on November 10 at 12 p.m. local time.

Leading the survivors is Jiabao Cai with 399,000 (100 BB). Cai took an early lead and maintained control throughout the day, becoming chip leader right after registration closed and holding that position until the end. One of his key moments came when he fired a 145,000 bet on the turn, forcing Huu Dung Nguyen to fold a big pot. On the final hand of the night, Cai 3bet facing a raise and a call, prompting both players to fold, and he cheekily showed queen seven as a float, sealing his top spot for the day.

Right behind him is Andrew Kelsall with 379,000 (95 BB) followed by Pu Zhang with 363,000 (91 BB). Zhang briefly overtook the lead at one point, peaking at around 465,000 with his aggressive high VPIP style, but a few tough spots late in the day cost him some chips before bagging.

The day also featured the much anticipated arrival of Patrik Antonius, who recently joined as WePoker Ambassador and Security Advisor. The Finnish legend made his presence felt right away, winning back to back hands that included a double knockout in his second hand of the day. However, Antonius lost momentum later and finished with 60,000 (15 BB) heading into Day 2.

Day 1B and Day 1C (Turbo) will kick off tomorrow at 12 p.m. following the same blind structure.

The tournament floor has stopped the clock with 15 minutes remaining and announced that only four hands will be played before players bag up for the night.

Dong Chen opens to 6,000 from early position, button Shuang Bao makes the call, and big blind Dang Van Hien defends.

The flop A♠ K♠ 9♦ brings the action to life as Bao bets 6,000 after both blinds check. Hien moves all in for 22,000, and Chen calls. Bao then announces all in, and after a long tank, Chen decides to call for a total of 77,500.

Bao flops two pair while Chen picks up a flush draw and Hien is drawing thin. The runout J♥ 7♦ brings no spades for Chen, and Bao drags in a massive pot, eliminating both opponents in one swoop.

From the hijack, Xiaqing Ji opens to 6,000, and small blind Qidong He 3bets to 16,500. Action returns to Ji, who shoves for 71,500. He snap calls, and the cards are tabled.

It’s a cooler spot as both players wake up with monsters, but Ji’s tournament hopes fade fast when the last ace in the deck hits the flop A♥ J♦ 6♦ , giving He top set. The turn 4♣ seals the deal, and the river Q♣ is a mere formality as He scoops the pot and sends Ji to the rail.

Pu Zhang now sits on top with around 465,000 after a stretch of relentless aggression. He’s been putting opponents to tough decisions, firing bets and raises in nearly every pot.

Blinds are up, and players now enter the 12th and final level of Day 1A at the Red Dragon Championship. Those still in the field are just one step away from bagging their chips and securing a spot for Day 2.

After an early raise, Ze Yun makes the call, and on his left, Joshua Mccully moves all in for 48,000. Yun calls to put him at risk.

From UTG+1, Zhouyi Wang opens to 5,000, nearly stealing the blinds, but big blind Hang Xu moves all in. Wang doesn’t back down and calls off his remaining 72,000.

Xu dominates Wang and holds through a clean runout Q♥ 9♣ 4♦ 2♣ 3♥ to score the knockout. A♠ the dealer pushes him the pot, Xu laughs and says with a grin, “This is the luckiest day of my life.”

Action folds to the small blind, where Chiayun Wu opens to 26,000. Haibo Yang in the big blind tanks for a moment before calling for 21,000.

Yang pairs his jack on the flop A♥ 7♦ 6♥ , leaving Wu with just three outs to survive. The turn 3♥ and river T♣ bring no help, and Yang takes down the pot with his pair holding strong.

Jiabao Cai opens preflop and calls the 3bet from Huu Dung Nguyen on the button to 11,000. On the flop 7♣ 4♠ 3♣ , Cai checks, and Nguyen fires a continuation bet of 7,000. Cai quickly raises to 35,000, and Nguyen makes the call to see the turn 8♠ .

Cai wastes no time turning up the pressure, pushing out a massive 145,000 bet. Nguyen takes a moment before signaling a fold, and Cai confidently pulls in the pot without a showdown.

UTG Daniel Lei opens to 4,000, and on his left, defending champion Jianting Cai 3bets to 11,000. Action returns to Lei, who 4bets to 24,000. Cai wastes no time and announces all in for 66,000, getting a snap call from Lei.

Cai needs an ace to stay alive but finds no help on the board J♥ 9♣ 8♣ 9♥ J♠ . The defending champion’s run ends here on Day 1A, though he still has four more flights to try and qualify for Day 2.

Registration is now officially closed for Day 1A of the Red Dragon Championship, drawing a strong field of 225 entries. Only 107 players remain in contention as the night continues.

With just three more levels left to play, the surviving contenders will be looking to bag their chips and secure a spot for Day 2 on November 10. The action is heating up as the final stretch of Day 1A begins.

A massive pot of around 90,000 builds as the board Q♣ J♣ 4♥ 8♥ K♥ is already complete. Haiwei Liang checks, and Zhongcai Peng fires a bet of 20,000. Liang goes deep into the tank for a full minute before finally making the call.

Peng turns over his hand K♠ K♦ , revealing a rivered set of kings, leaving Liang no choice but to muck. Peng scoops the big pot and adds a strong boost to his stack.

With the flop J♣ 7♦ 6♦ and turn 8♣ already up, the pot grows to 24,000 when Loong Choi Eng fires a bet of 10,500. Jin Jiangpu makes the call to see the river.

On the river 3♣ , Eng moves all in for 39,500, putting maximum pressure on Jiangpu. After a long tank and a time extension, Jiangpu decides to lay it down, and Eng drags the pot without needing to show his hand.

The flop J♠ 9♣ 7♦ and turn Q♣ are already out with 13,000 in the middle when small blind Jinguo Tao bets 5,000. On his left, Pu Zhang moves all in, and Tao snap calls for 45,000.

One of the most decorated players in the world has just arrived in Jeju and he is wasting no time making his presence felt. With over $30,000,000 in live career earnings, Patrik Antonius jumps straight into Day 1A of the Red Dragon Championship at the Jeju Poker Festival. The Finnish poker icon’s biggest career score came last year when he triumphed in the Triton Special Invitational for more than $5,000,000.

Now, Antonius is already in rhythm, scoring back-to-back eliminations to announce his arrival in style.

First Hand:

Antonius defends his big blind after Hu Ye opens from UTG+1 to 3,000. On the flop Q♥ T♥ 6♥ , Ye fires a continuation bet of 1,500, but Antonius check raises to 5,500. Ye calls, and the two see the turn 2♣ , where Antonius keeps up the aggression with another 5,500 bet. Ye calls again, but Antonius doesn’t slow down on the river 7♣ , pushing 25,000 into the middle and leaving just 1,000 behind. This time, Ye finally folds, conceding the pot.

Second Hand:

The very next hand, cutoff Lintong Dai open shoves for 8,000. Big blind Patrik Antonius moves all in over the top, and Wenjun He from the small blind calls for 11,500, creating a three way all in preflop.

The seats are open and the stage is set for the grand finale of the Jeju Poker Festival as the Red Dragon Championship officially gets underway today at Les A Casino (formerly Landing Casino) inside the luxurious Jeju Shinhwa World.

Day 1A begins at 12:00 p.m. local time, with players starting deep with 40,000 in chips (200 BB) and 40 minute levels throughout the day. Players will have a 15 minute break every two hours or every three levels, and a 60 minute dinner break before registration closes at the end of Level 9, around 7:45 p.m.

Play will continue through 12 levels, with no players reaching the money today, consistent with all four Day 1 flights. Survivors from each flight will return for Day 2 on November 10 to continue the battle for glory and the Red Dragon title.
