Tomoki Terashima from Japan Leads the Pack in Php 60,000,000 APT Main Event Flight A

After ten intense sixty-minute levels of play inside Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, Flight A of the PHP 60,000 APT Main Event has come to a close. A total of 218 entries battled it out on the felt, but by the end of the night, only 67 players had secured their spot for Day 2. With chips bagged and dreams still alive, the road to the title is just getting started.

Of the survivors, one name stood above the rest as Tomoki Terashima from Japan bagged up 347,300 chips and sits alone at the top of the counts. Terashima surged ahead of the field after winning a massive all-in showdown against compatriot Nobuaki Sasaki. With both players’ significant stacks on the line, Sasaki failed to complete his straight draw, falling short against Terashima’s Ace-King, which paired the Ace on the flop to secure the victory.

Close behind is Andrius Janca from Lithuania with 338,000 chips and Thijs Hilberts from the Netherlands with 292,600 chips Three former APT Champions have also secured their spots in Day 2 - Filipino Christopher Mateo with 206,400 chips, Yon Paredes from Peru with 169,800 chips and local celebrity John Tech with 84,700 chips. With their experience and sizable chip stacks, these seasoned players will definitely challenge the field as they chase for another APT Lion Trophy.

Other notables include Benjamin Jacobs (208,500), Jason Wong (188,700), Dylan Foster (181,800), Edward Yam (156,300), Natural8 Ambassador Hua-Wei Lin (155,100), and Daniel Smiljkovic (96,600).

With 218 entries recorded in Flight A, the total field has now grown to 420 players, boosted by an additional 202 qualifiers. With three more opening flights still to come, the final number is expected to climb even higher. A solid chunk of the PHP 60,000,000 guaranteed prize pool has already been chipped away, and with registration still open, the guarantee is inching closer to being met and surpassed.

The action was picked up on the flop of T♣ 9♠ 9♦ with Tomoki Terashima leading out for 2,500, followed by an all-in shove for 10,000 from Bat-Erdene Altangerel, risking his tournament life.

The decision was on Daniel Smiljkovic, who took a moment before declaring, "Double or nothing! If nothing, then I'll just buy in again before the day ends!" He shoved his stack, prompting a smile from Tomoki, who eventually made the call.

Yam Sends Suditu To The Rail

Edward Yam raised to 3,000 on the button. Madalin Suditu re-raised to 13,000 from the small blind. Ya, then fired back with a re-raise to 75,000. Suditu mistook it for an all-in and shoved all his chips and showed his A♦ K♦ . But without saying "raise", the dealer ruled it only as a call and showed a flop of 8♥ 7♦ 3♠

Yam was first to act and moved all-in this time with Suditu calling for his last chips with his exposed big slick.

Yam then showed 6♦ 6♣

The turn gave a 6♠ and sealed the fate of Suditu. The 7♥ on the river improved Yam to a full-house, making a statement to send Suditu to the exits.

A Bluff or a Monster?

With the board showing 7♥ 6♠ T♠ and a pot of 12,000, Suparerk Totsaponvisad fired 3,300 from middle position after the action was checked to him by Nattawut Kwunsong in the small blind. Heesung Kang, seated on the button, made the call, as did Kwunsong, keeping the hand three-way to the turn.

When the J♥ landed on the turn, Kwunsong—who had been quiet all hand—suddenly shoved all-in, catching his opponents off guard.

Totsaponvisad tanked, visibly struggling to put Kwunsong on a hand. After a long pause, he ultimately decided to fold. Kang, equally puzzled, asked for a count, checked his stack, and eventually mucked his hand as well.

With no showdown, Kwunsong casually revealed the 8♥ , leaving both opponents wondering—was it a bluff or a monster? Totsaponvisad, eager to know if he made the right laydown, pressed for an answer, but Kwunsong simply smirked and remained silent, keeping the mystery alive.

Short stacked Pongsapak Himathongkom, thought for a moment then shoved all-in for 38,000 risking his tournament life from the big blind and forcing Watanabe to fold his hand. Jacobs easily called.

The dealer revealed the 3♠ river, and Tech ramped up the aggression, firing 13,500 into the pot. Saito, unwilling to back down, made the call.

At showdown, Tech tabled A♠ A♦ , but Saito revealed K♥ J♥ for three of a kind, scooping the pot and leaving Tech on a short stack as the chips slid across the table.

Manila’s Main Event Kings Back in Action

Only three former Main Event champions remain in the field, each sitting behind vastly different chip stacks.

Yohn Paredes, who claimed his Main Event crown right here in Manila in 2019, currently has around 135,000 chips in front of him. That year, he conquered a 515-entry field to take home PHP 4,369,400. Paredes has a strong track record in the Main Event, having reached multiple final tables over the years. He finished fourth at APT Manila 2016, fifth at APT Cebu 2016, and ninth at APT Jeju 2017, proving his consistency on the APT circuit.

Christopher Mateo

Another former champion still in the mix is Christopher Mateo, who won the 2019 APT Manila Main Event, narrowly edging out Paredes' prize with a PHP 4,376,000 payday. Mateo has also built an impressive resume, highlighted by a runner-up finish in the 2022 APT Manila Main Event, where he fell just short to Moses Saquing — who, incidentally, is still in the running today. Mateo also has another final table to his name, finishing seventh at APT Manila 2016.

Jacobs had a breakout year on the 2024 APT circuit, racking up an impressive six final table appearances across multiple formats. His journey kicked off in Taipei last March, where he came heartbreakingly close to the winner's podium twice — finishing fourth in both the Sunday Superstack and No Limit Single Draw Mix - Hyper Turbo. He also locked up a sixth-place finish in the Zodiac Classic, proving his consistency across events.

Next up was Jeju, where Jacobs added two more final tables to his tally. He notched another sixth-place finish, this time in the Big O event, before taking a shot at the Baby Superstar Challenge, where he once again fell just short of the podium in fourth place. His run in the Main Event ended earlier than hoped, bowing out in 108th place, but his impressive form showed no signs of slowing.

Then came Manila, where Jacobs finally broke through after a string of near misses. Despite only cashing once, he secured his first APT podium with a third-place finish in the Zodiac Classic, an event that seems to be his personal specialty.

Kwunsong Goes On A Winning Streak

Nattawut Kwunsong raised to 600 from cutoff and was called by Abdullah Akbarpoor out of the small blind, and Supanat Rojsukthavorn from the big blind.

The flop came 5♣ 8♠ A♦ and the action checked to Kwunsong, who bet 1,200 which forced two folds from his opponents.

In the next hand, Kwunsong raised to 800 with Akbarpoor calling from the button, and Shuma Kimura defending his big blind.

The three players were shown a flop of 7♦ 5♦ T♣ where the action checked around for the 4♠ to appear on the turn. All three players checked to see the Q♣ land on the river. Action checked to Akbarpoor on the button, who fired 1,100. Kimura called before Kwunsong check-raised it to 3,800. Akbarpoor folded but Kimura carved out the call

Kwusong flashed K♠ Q♥ for a pair of queens. Kimura didn't bother to show and the pot was sent to Kwusong.

Kwunsong Aiming For Second Cash of the Series

Kramer Maximizes on Wannarat Never Folding

Ricoh-Shane Meno opened to 400 under the gun, only to face a 1,200 three-bet from Pattarapol Wannarat. In the small blind, Kilian Kramer escalated the action with a 4-bet to 3,700. Meno quickly folded, but Wannarat opted to call.

The flop came A♠ J♥ 7♦ , and Kramer continued with a 2,500 bet. Wannarat called once again, casually remarking, "I’ll never fold, my friend."

Tanking a bit because of Wannarat's statement, Kramer turned up the heat with a 7,700 bet on the 6♦ turn, . Wannarat let out a sigh of relief, saying, "Thank you for not going all-in, my friend, because I will never fold." He then called.
