South Korea's Jae Wook Shin Leads Flight D of the APT Main Event

Level 10: 700 / 1,400 ante: 1,400

The final flight of the Main Event, Flight D, has officially wrapped up! Out of 259 entries (201 unique), only 131 players remain, securing their spots for Day 2.

It is South Korea's Jae Wook Shin topping the Flight D counts, concluding the ten levels of play with 264,000 in chips.

Thailand's Pakwarin Teerawatpattana bagged the second largest Flight D stack and will be returning for Day 2 B/D with 242,400 in chips.

Japan's Shinya Maeda rounded out the top three, finishing the fourth starting flight with 183,700 in chips, with the top ten stacks as follows:

Other notables to make it through included Japan's Hirotoshi Nakabo (128,400), Singapore's Jacky Wang (127,400), Hong Kong's Jeffrey Lo (102,000), the USA's Joseph Cheong (88,900), and the Philippines Florencio Campomanes (82,400) to name but a few.

It was an action-packed day filled with big pots, bad beats, and plenty of chip shuffling, but the real battle begins tomorrow.

Day 2, flight B/D kicks off at 6:30 PM, where the 312 combined survivors from Flights B and D will return with their sights set on fighting their way through to Day 3 and the paying positions.

Main Event Flight D, Day 1 Concludes

Chu Doubles Right Up

Lee Chu

Lee Chu was all in for his tournament life, holding 4♦ 4♥ against Wei Ting Chen's A♣ K♠ .

With Chen hoping for big cards, the board ran out without pairing his ace or king, leaving Chu’s pocket fours to hold strong. Chen had to ship his chips over to Chu.

Sometimes, it's the small pairs that do the heavy lifting!

Madness Ensues Preflop

Level 10: 700 / 1,400 ante: 1,400

After an early position open, Jacky Wang shoved his 27,000 stack from the button, catching everyone off guard when the small blind decided to call. The original raiser got out of the way, leaving Kao Wei in the small blind looking disappointed when he saw his A♠ K♠ was up against Wang's A♦ A♣ .

Despite the river bringing a K♥ , it wasn’t enough for Wei to crack the rockets. Wang scooped the pot and doubled up, leaving Wei to shake his head in frustration.

Hoi and Widjaya Battle Once Again

Level 9: 600 / 1,200 ante: 1,200

Yip Man Hoi

Widjaya in the hi-jack wasn’t backing down after calling a three-bet from Yip Man Hoi on the button. The flop of 7♠ 4♦ 5♠ brought some action, with Widjaya check-calling a 3,800 bet.

The turn came 6♠ , and both players slowed down with a check.

On the river, the straight-completing 3♦ , Widjaya decided to go big, firing 22,000. Hoi went into the tank before eventually making the call with just A♥ T♠ . Widjaya looked disappointed, but that quickly turned into relief when he realized they chopped the pot!

GTO Loves This Guy

Level 9: 600 / 1,200 ante: 1,200

Minh Nguyen

Minh Nguyen wasn’t backing down after three-betting Andrew Hoon's lo-jack open, especially when Hoon four-bet back at him! Nguyen made the call, and with 40,000 already in the middle, the flop rolled out 5♥ A♦ K♠ . Both players decided to take a free look at the turn, which came 7♣ .

Now, Hoon, in position, fired 10,000, and Nguyen made the call. The river brought no fireworks with both players checking. Nguyen showed an ace with a higher kicker from the small blind to scoop the pot.

Pokers Cruelest Cooler Strikes Again

Level 8: 500 / 1,000 ante: 1,000

Shelley McDermott busted out after a wild three-way action in a four-bet pot. With 72,000 already in the middle, the flop came down 2♣ 6♣ J♦ , and Shin Jae Wook threw in a 25,000 bet, which McDermott called.

On the turn, when checked to, Wook then jammed for about 75,000. Holding K♦ K♥ , McDermott snap-called, only to see Wook proudly flip over A♣ A♥ . The rockets held strong, and the 3♠ river sent McDermott packing.

Another rough exit courtesy of the dreaded aces!

Ze Sent to the Rail

Ni Yu Ze found himself all in on a Q♠ T♦ 3♥ flop, sitting pretty with K♠ K♥ . Things were looking good until Yip Man Hoi raised all in, showing off a flopped set of T♥ T♠ .

The turn and river, however, brought no miracles for Ze, and he busts out of the tournament.

Big Slick Double Up

Level 7: 400 / 800 ante: 800

Leung Tsui decided to take a stand, four-bet jamming over Hsiang Ko’s small blind three-bet. Ko made the call with A♣ Q♦ , only to see he was up against Leung’s A♦ K♠ —dominated city.

The board bricked out, and Big Slick held strong for Leung, who doubled up in a massive 70 big blind pot. Tough break for Ko, but sometimes, Ace-Queen just doesn't cut it!

Thin Value Gets Paid!

Ni Yu Ze opened the button, and Widjaya called from the big blind. The flop came down 4♦ J♦ T♥ , and after checking, Widjaya called a 1,500 bet.

Things slowed down on the T♠ turn, with both players checking. But on the river, the 2♥ , Widjaya led small for 2,000, and Yu Ze snap-called.

Widjaya proudly flipped over his 8♣ 4♣ , scooping the pot with bottom pair! You’ve gotta love a bit of thin value.

Gary Thompson Gets Busted

Level 6: 300 / 600 ante: 600

Gary Thompson

Gary Thompson just took a brutal beat at the hands of Liao Chongwei. After both players checked the 2♠ T♥ 6♣ flop, the action heated up on the 7♥ turn. Chongwei decided to three-bet jam with his K♥ T♣ , and Thompson called with his 6♠ 7♠ , sitting pretty with two pair.

But poker can be cruel. The 2♦ river counterfeited Thompson’s two pair, giving Chongwei the winning hand with a higher two pair (tens and twos). Thompson, unfortunately, hit the rail in classic bad beat fashion.

Who Needs a GTO Range?

Pakwarin Teerawatpattana limped from early-position and Chun Yu Chen next to her put out an isolation raise. Heads-up to the flop A♥ K♥ 7♣ they went.

Teerawatpattana checked and Chen bet half pot, which the Thai called. She checked again the 4♦ turn and Chen went all-in for around twenty big-blinds which Teerawatpattana called with a monster draw 5♥ 3♥ . Chen showed A♦ Q♠ and had to fade, what felt like, half the deck on the river. Unfortunately, for him the river 6♣ gave Teerawatpattana a straight and busted Chen.

Hsu Gets Busted

Hsu found himself all-in with his tournament life at risk, holding A♥ T♦ against Shelley McDermott's J♣ J♥ . It was a classic flip, but unfortunately for Hsu, his ace never appeared.

McDermott's jacks held strong, sending Hsu and his remaining 12,000 chips to the rail. Better luck next time!

Kevin Choi Getting Bullied

Kevin Choi

Kevin Choi might be a seasoned poker pro, but that didn’t stop the other players from taking shots at him today. He just got three-bet in back-to-back hands, and it didn’t go his way in either one.

In the first hand, Choi opened from the button, but Seiji Kikuoka in the small blind wasn’t having it and raised him. The flop came down J♠ 8♥ 6♣ , and Kikuoka led out with a bet that Choi called. He also stuck around for another bet on the 2♦ turn. When the river brought the 6♠, Kikuoka threw out a small block bet, and Choi called, only to find out he was up against Kikuoka's K♠ J♣ .

In the very next hand, Choi opened from the cut-off, but Chih-Wei Chen in the small blind struck again with another three-bet. The flop showed K♣ 7♣ 2♥ , and Chen continued his aggression with a bet. Choi called, but when Chen fired again on the 6♦ turn, Choi decided to fold.

Full Value Against Ace High

Nopparat Kongjai opened from early-position and got one caller before Chia-Hung Yen the small-blind squeezed. The Thai responded with a four-bet and Yen called, only leaving himself less than half-pot behidn.

The flop came out 7♠ 5♣ 3♣ and Yen donk shoved his remaining chips into the middle. Kongjai took his time, tanking for several minutes, but eventually decided he was priced in with his A♦ K♦ .

Unfortunately for him, he was up against Yen’s pocket kings, K♥ K♣ , and the turn and river didn’t deliver the ace he needed and Yen doubled-up.

Kenji Yamase opened from the lo-jack and called a small three-bet from Shane Pearce in the small blind. The flop came down 4♦ J♣ 8♥ , and Pearce fired a continuation bet of 1,200, which Yamase called.

The turn was the 4♣ , and both players opted to check. On the K♦ river.

Pearce checked again and called a 2,000 bet from Yamase. The Japanese player sheepishly turned over queen-ten high, while Pearce scooped the pot with his K♥ Q♥ .

Seongbae Han opened from early position and got three-bet by Christina Kwai Fun Ying in the big blind. Han called, and they saw a flop of 9♦ 5♠ 7♥ .

Ying check-raised the flop to 5,000, which Han called. The turn came 8♥ , and Ying bet another 5,000. Han stuck around with a call.

Both players checked the 3♦ river, and Ying revealed her flopped set of 7's to take down the pot.

Japan's Boat Takes it Down

Tokuya Shuto

Mr. N-Rak Lertphokhanon opened from early position and got min-clicked by Japan's Tokuya Shuto on the button. He made the call, and both players checked the J♦ J♥ 8♣ flop.

The turn brought the J♣ , and Lertphokhanon fired 1000, quickly called by Shuto.

On the 5♣ river, Lertphokhanon bet 2500 with his Q♣ T♣ , but his flush couldn't beat Shuto's pocket tens, as the button scooped the pot with his full house.

Chinawut Indracusin opened from the cut-off, and Lit Mui defended his big blind.

The flop came down Q♠ 7♣ T♦ , and both players checked.

On the turn J♠ , Mui led out for 1,000, and Chinawut quickly called from the cut-off.

The river brought the straight-completing 9♥ , and after some thought, Mui fired again for 1,000. Chinawut called, but Mui's K♦ 3♦ was enough to win the pot with a king-high straight.

Shakti Kapoor opened the lojack and got some resistance from Andrew Hoon in the big blind.

The flop came A♥ 3♣ K♣ , and after a check from Hoon, Kapoor bet 500, which got called.

The turn was the 3♥ , and both players quickly checked.

On the river 5♠ , Hoon checked again, prompting Kapoor to bet 1,600. Hoon called with K♠ 7♠ , and his pair of kings was enough to take down the pot.

APT Main Event Flight D

The last opening flight of APT Main Event – Flight D is going to happen this afternoon at 6:30 pm. On the opening of the previous three flights over the last two days, a total of 1,662 live entries entered the tournament, and with a further 397 entries competing in the Natural8 qualifiers online, the current field size stands at 2,061.

Currently, it is Flight A frontrunner Keigo Kubo of Japan leading the charge after bagging up 420,600 in chips, with Malaysia's Chee Yong Sim topping the Flight B counts with a stack of 308,400. Fasten your seatbelts and buckle in for the Flight D action as we see if someone can steal Kuybo's thunder and usurp the top spot with the action getting underway at 6:30 pm local time.

Players will compete over ten levels; 30-minute blind levels 1-6, and 45-minute blind levels 7-10. The registration for the Main Event will still be open until the start of Day 2 A/C which starts on October 2nd 11:am local time.
