Day 1A of the APPT Main Event has wrapped up at Cove Manila, Okada Manila, with the flight attracting 300 entries and the field now trimmed to 47 survivors, all bagging chips and locking in a Day 2 seat for August 9.

Leading the way is Korea's Joungsun Kim, who closed the day with a commanding 855,000, almost double the next closest stack. Fellow Korean Seung Hyun Han sits some way back in second with 445,000, while Michael Bagdasarov rounds out the top three with 306,000.

The Day's Action

Han's second-place finish came despite a nasty cooler late in the level. His ace-king ran into Han's ace-ten, and a five-high flop set up a suckout, with neither the turn nor river bailing him out, costing Figuerres roughly half his stack right before bagging.

Elsewhere, Joseph Magnotti scored a full double with pocket kings against Frederick Dimayuga's queens, while Sandeep Mirchandani lost a big pot after check-raising into a made straight from Terry Gonzaga.

There was late drama for short stacks too, with Jingliang Chen's pocket eights unable to overcome Isaac Galazan's paired king, sending Chen back to the registration desk.

Bad Beat for Figuerres

Joshua Figuerres

Hyun Seung Han raised to 8,000 from the cutoff before facing a 45,000 three-bet from big blind Joshua Figuerres. Han fairly swiftly four-bet to 100,000, and Figuerres wasted little time in five-bet jamming with his covering stack, which sent Han deep into thought.

After some time, he stood up, grabbed his stack, and ferociously placed it into the middle, before the two revealed their cards:

"Ohhh, ace-king!" Han groaned as he saw his opponent's dominating hand.

Neither the 8♦ turn nor the 6♣ river could save Figuerres from an end-of-day bad beat, as he forked over 224,000 chips, around half his stack, to his opponent.

Both checked the 9♠ Q♠ T♣ flop to the J♥ turn, where Mirchandani led for 9,000 after a check from Gonzaga. The Filipino then check-raised to 20,000, before Mirchandani re-raised to 45,000, and Gonzaga put in the call.

There is a new APPT Open champion at APPT Manila 2026.

After several days of action and outlasting a field of 508 entries, Japan's Asaki Tanaka emerged victorious to capture one of the festival's biggest titles. Tanaka takes home PHP 4,800,000 (~USD 78,070), an APPT Championship Package, the coveted APPT Shard, and the honor of being crowned the APPT Open champion.

It was a memorable run from the Japanese pro, who navigated a tough final table before sealing the title in a one-hand heads-up battle to add another major achievement to his poker resume.

Burzio check-called when Riga fired 3,500 on the A♥ 3♥ 7♠ flop, and Lirio let his hand go.

On the 4♠ turn, Burzio checked again, calling once more after Riga's 9,000 bet.

The A♣ completed the board and Burzio moved all in with his covering stack. Riga stuck in the call, looking pretty sick to see he had been out-rivered by the Italian, who held A♠ 3♠, having made a full house.

Henrik Tollefsen raised to 900 from early position and was joined to the flop by Alfie Adam in the cutoff, plus big blind Emelito Dela Cerna.

Dela Cerna checked the 8♥ 6♠ K♠ flop, as did Tollefsen. Adam then fired 1,500, to which Dela Cerna check-raised to 4,500, prompting a swift fold from Tollefsen. Adam then re-raised to 10,500, at which point the Filipino moved all in with his covering stack.

Adam looked a little concerned but stuck in the call.

Phenix Oesterstroem raised to 500 from the button, and both blinds Joseph Magnotti and Ryo Takeuichi joined him to the flop.

All three opted to check when the dealer fanned 4♠ A♥ 9♥, sending them to the 6♥ turn, where Magnotti led for 1,000. Only Takeuichi made the call.

The J♦ river completed the board and Magnotti fired again, this time for 3,000. After a short tank, the Japanese player put in the call, only for Magnotti to flick over Q♥ J♥, having turned the second nuts with a flush.

Reigning champion Justin Ong has taken his seat for this year's APPT Main Event. The Filipino completed a remarkable double last year, winning the Main Event for PHP 14,800,000 (~USD 256,370) just days after also capturing the PokerStars Red Dragon, a combined haul of more than PHP 19,000,000 (~USD 326,000). He'll be looking to defend his crown and add another chapter to that story here at APPT Manila 2026.

Jongmoon Park raised to 400 from middle position and was joined to the flop by Gyuback Cho in the small blind.

Both players checked the 3♥ 3♣ T♠ 4♠ flop and turn to the T♦ river, where both players turned over an ace to chop the pot.

Billy Alfonso then raised to 300 from under the gun and received calls from Park, plus big blind John Riad.

Riad checked, before folding when Alfonso continued for 300 on the T♦ 2♦ Q♠ flop. Park also opted not to make the call.

There were then three limpers, and Alfonso checked in the big blind, sending them four ways to the flop.

Park led for 300 when the dealer fanned 5♣ 5♠ 2♠, and only Riad made the call.

On the 9♣ turn, Park fired 700, again check-called by Riad.

Both checked the Q♦ river, where Riad flicked over 7♥ 2♣ for two pair, only for Park to muck in disbelief, showing A♠ K♥ for just ace-high.

APPT Main Event Day 1A Gets Underway with PHP 60,000,000 Guaranteed

The marquee event of APPT Manila 2026 has arrived. The PHP 80,000 (~USD 1,300) buy-in APPT Main Event carries a massive PHP 60,000,000 (~USD 976,000) guaranteed prize pool, with Day 1A getting underway today at 12:00 PM local time at Cove Manila, Okada Manila.

Players will play 40-minute levels throughout the day, with late registration open until Level 10 at 7:25 PM.
