Tong Mu Leads Final 14 in Day 2 APPT Korea Main Event

After several days, multiple starting flights and hundreds of players chasing poker glory, the APPT Korea Main Event is finally down to its final contenders.

Of the 165 hopefuls who returned to Paradise City Resort for Day 2, just 14 were able to bag up for the finale. Tong Mu managed to end the day with 3,485,000 in chips, putting the lone American at the top of the leaderboard. Yuma Tominaga, who started the day as the chip leader, sits second with 2,920,000, while the last lady standing, Xueying Zhao, is third with 2,550,000.

Mu's breakout performance came earlier this summer at the Wynn Summer Classic in Las Vegas, where he finished sixth in a $1,100 No-Limit Hold'em event for $70,312, the largest cash of his career. That result helped propel his 2026 live earnings above $100,000, and he is now favored to add another big score to his resume by making a run at the final table.

Everyone remaining has already locked up at least KRW 11,310,000 (~USD 8,335) for their efforts, but with the biggest prizes still ahead, the final 14 will have plenty to play for. They will be competing for the APPT Korea Main Event title and trophy, along with the KRW 218,166,000 (~USD 160,688) first-place prize. Additionally, the top three finishers will receive an APPT Manila Championship package valued at KRW 5,700,000 (~USD 4,250).

Day 2 Highlights

The day began with 165 players returning from the 782-entry field, and it didn't take long for Zhao to assert her presence. First by eliminating Hirohisa Yukawa on one of the first hands of play, and then following it up by sending Shinya Maeda out with pocket rockets.

It took just over a level to reach the money bubble, which saw a handful of double-ups before Evgenii Chzhen fell one spot shy of the money. In the hand, Chzhen moved all in preflop with ace-queen only to run into the pocket kings of Wengang Wang. The runout offered no help and Chzhen was sent home empty-handed while everyone else had secured a payout of at least KRW 2,900,000 (~USD 2,137).

Not long after, Tominaga was among the first to secure a seven-figure stack as the field continued to dwindle.

With fewer than 50 players remaining, Soichiro Hayashi picked up a huge pot in a particularly cruel confrontation against Gaku Fujita. The two both held ace-queen, but four spades arrived on the board to give Hayashi an unlikely flush and send Fujita to the rail.

Mu's rise to the top came late in the day, with a particularly large pot going his was after Mu called a large back-shove from Niko Schmitz for the knockout.

The final elimination of the day occurred when Peter Park shoved over the top of an open by Chao Ting Cheng holding king-queen. Unfortuantley for Park, Hirotaka Fukatsu woke up with Big Slick behind him, called, and held - bringing the field down to the final 14.

The finalists will return to Paradise City Resort at 1 P.M. local time and play down to a winner. Play will resume on Level 27, with blinds of 30,000/60,000 and a 60,000 big-blind ante.

Maxim Sorokin raised to 100,000 from the cutoff and just behind him, Chao Ting Cheng three-bet to 275,000 on the button. Action folded back to Sorokin, who cut out a four-bet to 700,000 and placed it into the middle.

Cheng thought a bit, but eventually decided to lay his hand down - conceding the pot to Sorokin.
