China Poker Games Biggest Annual Event – CPG Championship In Sanya This August

China’s premier poker brand, China Poker Games is just weeks away from hosting its biggest annual festival in Sanya, Hainan Island. As tradition dictates, the upcoming CPG Championship will be held during the third week of August, running from August 21-30, 2024, at the Howard Johnson Resort Sanya Bay.

Expectations are high for this year’s celebration. Now in its 12th year, CPG will attempt to surpass its previous festival record of CNY 100 Million (~$13.8 Million) set last year. Early this month, the full schedule was released featuring 39 events and 12 satellite tournaments. You can find that at the bottom of the page.

The CPG Championship Finals aka Main Event begins on August 24 and runs until the last day of the festival on August 30.  For players new to the CPG, the Main Event utilizes a repechage format allowing players to buy in only once per day which means, same-day re-entry is not allowed. To enter, buy in is CNY 10,500 (~USD 1,450).

China Poker Games is the largest poker brand in China hosting several Championship Satellite events around the country, all leading up to the annual Championship event in Sanya. Each year, the turnout has swelled, producing the biggest fields ever seen in the region.

While the field primarily consists of Chinese nationals, international attendance has been growing each year. Players from Southeast Asia are among the most consistent. A contingent of Australians has also been seen at the tables. This year, 2023 CPG Haitang Satellite Main Event champion, Alex Lee, has confirmed his attendance and will be bringing a group of Singaporeans and Malaysians to the games. Lee shared,

“Interest and curiosity about CPG has been growing. It will be a good time for players to go this August with not many clashes in the region. It’s a great experience. I’ve been going to this big one for sometime so I can help answer any questions for international players interested in attending.”

If you are planning to attend for the first time, one of the many reasons why CPG continues to draw large fields is its focus on player experience both on and off the felt. CPG was first brand in Asia to go fully digital, ensuring smoother and seamless registration process. The CPG APP was recently upgraded and launched on July 21, 2024. Additional services include festival invitation letters, booking tours, and food delivery.
