Through the years, SPL has been a platform for players in Singapore who are looking to advance their game and compete outside of the country. Aside from weekly games, SPL ties up with international brands to enable their members to travel and play with discounts and benefits.

In operation since 2014, the group has grown to 259 members. Founder Jack Liew feels the time has come for Singapore to experience its first international series on home soil, and he hopes to make it materialize. Liew shared,

“CTP has been a role model in running tournament series’ and have been doing very well in Taiwan. I feel that SPL can learn from them and bring their approach and system back to Singapore. CTP owner David Tai always shares with me how he managed poker legally in Taiwan which is what I want for SPL in Singapore…. the plan is to bring in an international brand to Singapore to run a poker tour.”

In addition, Liew hopes that an international event in Singapore can help equip SPL members with the skills and ability to win more events for the country. Among the big names of poker in Singapore are Bryan Huang, Aaron Siyang Phua (WSOP Online bracelet winner), Norbert Koh, Zhao Feng, Tzai Wei Phua, and Wilson Lim who won the 2018 APPT Manila Main Event, the largest event to date in Southeast Asia.

Last month, Team Singapore placed 4th at the Match Poker Asian Nation Cup 2023 to secure their spot in the World Cup National Finals in Zurich, Switzerland later this year.
