China’s leading poker brand, China Poker Games, is gearing up for its 12th Annual CPG Championship Sanya taking place this August at Howard Johnson Resort Sanya Bay. The highly anticipated festival consistently draws one of the largest crowds ever seen in Asia. If you are just hearing of this event, it is one not-to-be-missed. Two years ago, the CPG Championship Finals pulled in a record 4,406 entries with the prize pool reaching up to a massive US$ 6.5 Million. Last year also drew over 4000 entries for a US$ 5.5 Million prize pool.

This year’s edition is poised to be another head-turner, with expectations set high for yet another monumental turnout. Through the years, Chinese nationals account for over 90% of the participants, and in the recent years, international interest has been steadily increasing with players from all over the region and from Australia joining the action. With the event drawing near, international players curious about whether a visa is needed for travel to Sanya, the good news is, foreign nationals from 59 selected countries can visit Hainan Island without a visa however they cannot enter via mainland China without a regular visa. Visa-exempt travelers are given 30 days free to explore Hainan Island. To apply for the 30-day free visa, players can contact CPG via the website: www.chinapokergames.com.

The 2024 CPG Championship is a ten-day poker celebration featuring 39 trophy events. Headlining the festival is the CPG Championship Finals aka Main Event which begins on August 24 and runs until the last day of the festival on August 30. Players begin with a 30,000 stack, blinds increase every 60 minutes for all Day 1 heats then 90 minutes for the duration of the tournament.

For players new to the CPG, the Main Event utilizes a repechage format allowing players to buy in only once per day which means, same-day re-entry is not allowed. To enter, buy in is CNY 10,500 (~USD 1,450).

*Important reminder: Due to government regulations, players must notify CPG of attendance at least 24 hours prior.

Players that attend Main Event Day 1A are eligible for a basic room type voucher at select hotels. Before the Main Event kicks off, players can get into the action early at the 12th Anniversary Event, scheduled from August 21 to 23, 2024. This popular event typically attracts a large crowd as participants aim to build their bankrolls ahead of the Main Event. Attendees of the 12th Anniversary Event will receive a special souvenir pack, including a CPG 12th Anniversary Sunscreen Jacket, Cap, and Keychain. Additionally, a dinner voucher will be provided to all participants.

Other Key Events

Aside from the long list of side events to enjoy, the schedule features numerous key events, proven crowd favorites year after year.  During the early part of the festival are the Free Trade Port Cup and PLO later followed by the Lu Cheng Cup and the Sanya Bay Cup taking place near the end of the festival.
