Eight days through its ten-day schedule, the Red Dragon Poker Tour games at Landing Casino, Jeju Shinhwa World, South Korea, is coming down to its final days, accompanied by the electrifying Championship Event heading onto Day 3. Four days of action saw the 1,337 entry field narrow down to only 60 players remaining in contention for the Main Event title, as well as the biggest payout this season. China’s Jiang Daqiao stands in the lead, having found the largest bag by the end of Day 2, followed closely by Cai Jianting. Action resumes this Saturday, August 3rd at 12 noon, where players will again course through ten levels of play or down to the final table, whichever comes first.

Championship Event Day 2 Recap

Red Dragon Championship Event Day 2 welcomed 456 players back on the felt, and quickly saw at least a dozen contenders fall out of contention within the first ten minutes. By the fifth level of play, runners began to tread more carefully with the money bubble fast approaching. However, it was the exit of Zhu Fang Zhou by the hands of Chen Xu that guaranteed everyone else a KRW 4,620,000 (~USD 3,400) minimum payout. Zhu open shoved his last 11 BB with JdJs and ran right into Chen’s KhKc for his elimination in 202nd place.

With all players locking in a profit, chips continuously swung back and forth and saw Japan’s Kozo Yamada and Nana Nakamura stack the highest by the final break. China’s Chi Qiao just a few minutes later, inched over the field after landing a 30 BB boost with KdKs against Zhang Nan’s QdQs to send the latter out. Chi enters the Day 3 order, positioned 4th in chips, joined by four other countrymen Jiang Daqiao, Cai Jianting, Jun Liu, and Li Dong, across the top five.

All returning 60 survivors are now guaranteed a KRW 7,190,000 (~USD 5,285) payday and a fighting chance to claim the coveted KRW 392,403,000 (~USD 288,460) top prize, RDPT Main Event trophy, and the exclusive Red Dragon Winner’s Jacket. Also making it through, is latest WPT ambassador Pete Chen, and highly decorated pros Jinlong Hu, Wu Chiayun, and Xue Song, along with strong female contenders Shiina Okamoto, Zhang Chenxu, and Hua Wei Lin.
