Poker destination: DSO and ASOP Festivals in Mauritius

The year may be drawing to a close, but big live poker festivals are set to get underway across the world in the new year. Players who prefer their felt to be live rather than virtual still have plenty to sink their teeth into in January, with the Deepstack Poker Open (DSO) and African Series of Poker (ASOP) hosted in Mauritius being particular highlights. All events will take place at the Casino Ti Vegas in Grand Bay.

The last edition of the festival saw Fred Gozalbes taking down the DSO Main Event and Gregory Torrents winning the ASOP Main Event.

Poker and Holiday

Mauritius is a major tourist destination with a tropical climate with clear warm sea waters, beaches, tropical fauna and flora.  The Island received the World’s Leading Island Destination award (for the third time!) and World’s Best Beach at the World Travel Awards in January 2012.

The next instalment of this series will see Main Event satellites kicking off on January 18th, before the Main Event itself gets underway on Friday the 19th. There are two starting flights, with the second taking place on January 20th. The Main Event buy in will be  € 550 , with days 2 and 3 playing out on January 21st and 22nd. The Main Event will not be the only attraction on these days however, as the € 300  buy in ‘DSO Classic’ plays out on the 21st, and the € 200 DSO Omaha event will be taking place on the 22nd.

Running immediately after the DSO, between the 23rd and 28th of January will be the African Series of Poker. The Main Event for this festival will feature a slightly larger buy in compared to the DSO, but there will also be a 6 max, a ladies event and a Deepstack event within the first two days, featuring buy ins in the  €  110-300 range.

The Main Event will be the big attraction, featuring a  € 1,100  buy in, with day 1 scheduled for January 25th. Days 2 and 3 will play out during the following two days, with smaller events such as the   € 100 Mini ASOP, the   € 300 Omaha,  € 250 – 8 handed event and the  € 250 Bounty tournament all taking place during those final few days.

Cash Games

Cash games will also be offered with €1.25/2,50  and €2.5/5  tables opened.

If you are looking for live tournament action to start your new year in style, head over to Mauritius in January for these festivals, which have brought in good crowds of players in recent years.
