For a country with one of the strictest gambling regulations, Vietnam has quickly become a fan-favorite destination for many poker players in the region. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, the local tournament scene was recording tremendous progress as major international operators like the World Poker Tour, Asian Poker Tour, and Asia Poker League eagerly set their eyes on the growing market. However, with live poker taking a huge hit in the past year, the sport appears to be in the midst of recovery alongside the country’s battling health situation.

It has been a while since the capital of Vietnam, Hanoi celebrated a grand opening of a new major poker club in the city, especially with the pandemic fast approaching its two-year mark. This month’s opening of the VSOP Poker Club looks to be a great addition across the local scene as it opened its doors to the public last November 21st. Its grand opening event, a VND 60M GTD Bounty tournament brought out over 200 runners excitedly joining the festivities and experiencing the new venue’s cool and colorful vibe for the first time.

Players who missed the inaugural event will be glad to know that this week’s celebration is even bigger than the opening tournament, boasting not one but two Main Events on schedule. While the VND 100M GTD has already passed, local players can still vie for this Saturday’s boosted Main Event carrying a VND 200M GTD for an entry fee priced at VND 2.3M. Closing the week-long festivities as well, is a VND 4.4M Sunday High Roller tournament with a guaranteed prize pool of VND 320M for those looking for even crazier action.

The party doesn’t stop there as it looks like VSOP has great value tournaments lined up week after week. Kicking off on December 6, Grinder Series I features VND 2 Billion in combined prize guarantees with its Main Event covering already VND 1 Billion of that total. Apart from the juicy Main Event to conclude the series, next week’s festival will see a number of key events such as the Kick Off with a VND 300M guarantee and the Rising Stars tournament with VND 400M amongst others. A total of 11 VSOP champions will receive exclusive awards in addition to their top prizes and potentially secure a spot in the club’s prestigious Hall of Fame.

As like other poker rooms in the country, VSOP Poker Club operates in accordance with local regulation thus only allowing players to participate in tournament poker. Similarly cash games remain restricted while also giving way for scheduled events big and small to flourish throughout. With the opening of VSOP a welcomed success, local players can expect its offerings to hold a notable spot in their poker calendars from here on.
