Triton Poker teases the biggest buy-in tournament in history
Bigger than ever poker action is soon to come from The Triton Poker camp with a teaser trailer just released on the brand’s facebook account along with a press release that stated,
“Triton Poker have confirmed that their first 2019 festival will be in Jeju, South Korea from the 2nd to the 9th of March next year, according to a video teaser released on the organization’s official social media handles.
However, fans and professional poker players will be extremely intrigued by the video’s promise of ‘The Biggest Buy-In in Poker History.’”
In an interview with Richard Yong back in 2016, the Triton Super High Roller Series creator shared his ambitions of holding a big charity event akin to Guy Laliberte’s One Drop €1 Million buy-in tournament. Yong was confident that the Triton SHR Series would be able to attract higher numbers than the One Drop. That vision may be coming to fruition.
“The teaser also hinted at four additional stops in the months of May, July, September and November, although the locations of each remain vague.”

Triton Poker Series
The Triton Poker Series knows no bounds. It is inarguably the richest series worldwide. Since its inception in 2015, the brand has held 9 events with each one generating massive prize pools well in the seven-digit range. Mikita Badziakouski became the first back-to-back Main Event champion amassing winnings over US$7.7 Million.
The brand also held the first Short Deck Poker tournament which has now become a mainstay in their schedule. Malaysia’s Seng “Ivan” Leow won one of those events in Jeju awarding him his first cool million.
Challenging the Big One for One Drop?
Interestingly, in a context where Super High Roller events have been flourishing, the numbers for the Guy Laliberte’s Big One for One Drop have been decreasing progressively. Still the largest buy-in of €1 Million, its biggest draw was its first event in 2012 with 48 entries for a prize pool of US$42,666,672. Antonio Esfandiari went on to win over US$18.3 Million. In 2014, the numbers dropped slightly to 42 entries, then sharply down to 28 entries in 2016, and 27 entries last year.
As Triton Poker continues to grow and innovate, drawing the creme de la creme of poker, it poses the question, can they manage to bring the Super High Roller scene to a $1M buy-in range and over?
