The Triton Super High Roller Series headed out to Montenegro for a five-day event at the Maestral Resort & Casino off the exclusive coast of the Adriatic waters. While the gorgeous and romantic surroundings could easily take anyone’s breath away, mindless of the hours spent just staring at such natural beauty, that intimate moment had to wait. The Triton was at hand and every player in attendance knew that this rare event only occurred a few times out of the year.

As usual, the Triton held two highly prestigious events, the fire starter HK$250,000 6-Max followed by the beastly super high roller event of the super high roller series, the HK$1,000,000 Main Event. Last night, the series came to a close with Germany’s Manig Loeser ruling the Main Event while days ago, semi-retired German wunderkid Fedor Holz bagged the 6-Max. Needless to say, the Triton was all about the Germans.

So let’s get started with the numbers. From a HK$1,000,000 buy-in to a HK$48,921,600 total prize pool, which is roughly US$6,268,665, this massive tally secured eight players out of the 52-strong entry field a nice chunky payout. For Manig Loeser, his winnings dwarfed all others. He took home the sky’s high US$2,162,644 making this his single largest live tournament career score.

To reach such heights, Loeser navigated his way through a sea of the toughest players in the super high roller circuit. Defending champion Koray Aldemir and previous champions Fedor Holz and Wai Kin Yong were among those in the mix and hungry for more belts while David Peters, Paul Phua, Steve O’Dwyer, Dan Cates, and even the ever elusive Tom Durrrr Dwan added to this dynamite group of exclusive players.

By the time the final table of eight was reached, none of those players were in the vicinity however there were other big hurdles to overcome, especially at four-handed, with John Juanda, Peter Chan, and Richard Yong eyeing down the title and the massive first prize attached to it.

Out of the three, it was Yong who gave Loeser the hardest chase. Yong shut down Juanda in 4thplace to have a controlling lead at three-handed. And even after Loeser eliminated Chan in 3rdplace, giving him a slight edge on Yong entering the heads up round, the Malaysian still found a way to regain the lead momentarily. Kudos to Yong who battled hard but in the end, the limelight was for Loeser who earned his first Triton SHR Main Event title and the breathtaking two mil in cold hard cash.

Fedor Holz retires the rest at the HK$250K 6-Max

And what can we say about Fedor Holz. This incredible German superstar may want us to believe he has semi-retired, but in reality, it seems more like he is retiring players who are obstructing his path, on a road only he knows where it is headed. Two months ago, Holz claimed two titles at the Aria Super High Roller series, and if that’s what retired players do then just days ago, he continued to do some “retiring”, dusting 41 entries and collecting another title, this time at the Triton SHR HK$250K 6-Max.

While the US$444,893 first prize seemed small as compared to his largest ever career win, he is getting very close to inching up another notch in the All Time Money ladder. If he continues to blow away the competition then he may surpass 5thposition Phil Ivey in no time. To date, Holz has over US$23.3M in earnings.
