MBP Highlights: Tom Dwan runner-up at the SHR! Andy Chan wins the Main Event

The Macau Billionaire’s Poker 2017 Spring Challenge that ran from March 17th-20that the Babylon Casino in Macau Fisherman’s Wharf was loaded with stories up the wazoo with well known pros running deep in the Main Event. Out of all the news though, none was more intriguing than everyone’s favorite mystery man Tom Dwan.

Dwan’s story was far from the usual with the American pro finishing in runner-up position at the HK$500,000 buy-in Super High Roller event. This was his first live tournament cash since 2014, pocketing US$252,153. Additionally, this was a special moment for many fans having been denied his presence at the Triton series back in February.

For a rundown of the SHR event, there were 15 total buy-ins for a prize pool of HK$6,525,000. Edging Dwan for the title was Mikita Badziakouski who has been running quite well in Asia since his first appearance in November last year. This is Badziakouski’s first live tournament victory in the region, and was awarded US$420,255. Last month, he placed 7that the side event of the Triton SHR series and 3rdat the Macau Poker Cup a few days prior.

Andy Ying Kit Chan wins the Main Event, Terry Fan out in 6th

The second biggest pot was of course the HK$8,000 buy-in Main Event with 397 entries and a prize pool of HK$2,763,120. There were several pros finding their way into the money such as the recent Red Dragon champion, Alan King Lun Lau, who finished in 26thplace, and another highly decorated player, Terry Fan, who ran deeper with a 6thplace berth.

However, the moment was not theirs to own as it was Andy Ying Kit Chan who had the ammunition to take it all the way to the finish line. Chan claimed the trophy after overcoming Yuanhang Zhong, who won the ACOP Platinum Series XVI Main Event in mid-January and who finished 7that the APT Finale Main Event a month prior to that. Chan shipped in the HK$690,790 (US$88,969) first prize and his first live tournament victory.

Side Events

The MBP 2017 Spring Challenge also saw a few other winners; Fu Bo Chen won the HK$3,000 Single Day Airplane NLH; Adam Charles Sanders for the HK$50,000 High Rollers; and Chadi Moustapha claimed the HK$3,000 Single Day Bounty.
