Jianting Cai Clinches Red Dragon Championship Title

Eight players returned for the Red Dragon Championship final battle, all in hopes of securing the title and six-figure payout. China’s Jianting Cai led the charge, having delivered the final blow across the previous day’s games to top the charts. It took over an hour of play before the first elimination was seen with Xiaobin Zhou heading for the rails shortly after calling off with top two pair against Chi Jen Chen’s flopped flush.

Sole Japanese runner Kyosuke Nagami followed soon after, having run his last ten big blinds right into Cai’s pocket kings. The most experienced player on the table, Joseph Cheong apparently couldn’t get a breakthrough and eventually had to go with QJ, only to be looked up by Ngoc Ha Nguyen with AQ. Cheong finished in 6th, which led the ball rolling following his elimination. Just a couple minutes later, Cai busted both Chi Jen Chen and Ye Li in 4th and 5th place respectively, racking nearly half of the chips in play.

Armed with a mighty stack, Cai continued to pump up his preflop aggression, landing him several small pots along the way. The Chinese runner’s tournament life was nowhere in danger at any point in the final table, with the final duel soon emerging after Zehao Li finished off Ngoc Ha Nguyen in 3rd place over a flip. Cai’s momentum continued strong, bringing in almost a 3:1 advantage against Li. In just two deals, Cai closed out the action, having cracked Li’s pocket kings across the final hand with a mid pair turned trips for the title.

The two-day highlight, Red Dragon High Roller, attracted 45 entries across fourteen levels of registration, with only eight places banking a share of the KRW 274,559,000 (~USD 196,740) prize pool. Jeju regular Valeriy Pak missed out a payday by one, having ran his pocket jacks right into William Teoh’s pocket aces, shooting his opponent the lead over the final rounds.

Teoh went on to dominate the games, not once relinquishing the advantage, to eventually reach heads up play against Joonhee Yea with a monstrous lead. The two cut a payout deal, earning Teoh a sweet KRW 86,259,000 (~USD 61,630) score to cap his series run, while day chip leader Yea settled for a runner up finish.
