Coronavirus: APL Danang cancelled
We just recently reported about the effects of the Coronavirus on poker and gambling in general throughout Asia and the news from organizers keep coming.
Unfortunately they keep the same tone as before, informing players about cancelled events in several different Asian countries.
APL Danang latest event to be cancelled
In Vietnam the decision was made on Tuesday by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to not just close some cultural and historical sites to help Coronavirus prevention, but also the cancellation of all international sporting events in February.
After the cultural and historical sites had been sterilised they have since re-opened. Festivals were not so fortunate and so the Asia Poker League and the Vietnam Series of Poker issued following statement:
“In accordance with WHO and the rapid spread of the corona virus the APL and VSOP “Tip Off” in February has been cancelled. Furthermore a reliable source has stated that the Vietnamese Government has banned all international sporting events temporarily.
It’s unfortunate that our event cannot proceed and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused however the APL/VSOP considers the safety of our players first!
Hope to see you in Taiwan!”
March events
If events in March, such as the World Poker Tour WPT Vietnam 2020 (13th to 22nd March) will go ahead, remains to be seen. The government ban on festivals has only been announced for February, so it is assumed that events in March will go ahead.
We recommend keeping your eyes on the social media channels and email communications of any events you are planning to attend and also check back frequently on any news here on Somuchpoker.com.
