APL HCMC: Xiaoyin He tops Main Event Day 1A; Dang Xuan Canh among the leaders

Asia Poker League concluded Day 1A of the APL HCMC Road Series Vol.3 – Main Event VND 8 Billion Guaranteed. Out of the 82 entries, 24 players made the cut into Day 2. Unsurprisingly, the locals dominated in numbers however claiming the chip lead was Xiaoyin He from China. Xiaoyin staged a late game run, knocking out multiple players to amass 205,200.

Another player rising to the upper ranks was Michael Kim Falcon though it took him several bullets to get there. He closed the day with 184,300.

Out of the 14 Vietnamese players that weathered the day’s challenges, it was Dang Xuan Canh who built up the largest stack of 154,500. Throughout the day, Dang was involved in many interesting hands however one in particular stunned everyone at the table.

With blinds at 400-800 ante 100, Dang raised to 2k from hijack and big blind Pham Bao called. Both players checked it until the river . Acting first, Pham shoved his 12.3k stack sending Dang to the think tank. With around 60k behind, Dang eventually slid out the call, though reluctantly. Pham turned over which meant he played the board, and Dang shipped it with nine-high. That had to be the hand of the day.

Before bagging up, Dang won a very lucky double up through Tran Xuan Truc with his A-J second pair all in on the flop of Q-6-J improving to trips on the river to overtake Truc’s Q-10 top pair.Dang placed 3rd at the first APL Vietnam Main Event back in May and is looking to better that this time around.

Also making it through were Ng Pui Cheung and Nguyen Van Trung. Both players cashed at the festival opener DSO Vietnam Main Event.
