WPT Prime Cambodia: Chien-Chih Weng crushes NagaWorld Millions; Brad Owen, Sandro Burkhard, Yu Ogusu bag chip leads

Another exciting day at Season XXI WPT Prime Cambodia with Maggie Chien Chih Weng crowned champion at the NagaWorld Millions. The day also saw three players bag chip leads, WPT Brand Ambassador Brad Owen at the Mini High Roller, Sandro Burkhard at Mystery Bounty Day 1A, and Yu Ogusu at the Deepstack NLH. Maggie Chien Chih Weng crushes NagaWorld Millions final table

Topping the headlines was none other than Taiwan’s Maggie Chien Chih Weng for her crushing victory at the first ever NagaWorld Millions. Weng entered the final table as chip leader, proceeded to eliminate six players to clinch the win and a career high score of US$ 50,150.

However, it wasn’t rock and roll at the start. In fact, more on the rocky side for Weng during the first four levels of Day 2. As one of the 53 returning players out of 508 total entries, Weng watched her 24 bb stack drain to <7 BB when she woke up with . This earned her a triple up while simultaneously railing Jonathan Pollard in 23rd place.

The momentum carried and by the time the final table was formed, Weng was sitting on the chip lead. She went on to eliminate Xiaoqing Lu (9th), Andrew McGregor (8th), Firat Basbaydar (7th), Lian Ting Hao (5th), Rolands Norietis (3rd), and Vikaash Shah (2nd), each time ahead at the showdown.

The final hand saw Shah shove on a board holding flush draw, Weng had trips, the river was . Weng became the first player from Taiwan to win at the ongoing series. Also running deep was WPT Prime Vietnam Main Event champion Zarvan Tumboli in 4th place.

It concluded with Switzerland’s Sandro Burkhard delivering the bubble and bagging up the chip lead. Burkhard was already backed by a hefty stack when the final hand went down. The 18 qualifiers advance to Day 2 which is on Tuesday, March 14 at 1pm. While they wait, two starting flights will run on Monday, March 13, Day 1B starts at 1pm with blinds increasing every 30 minutes and Day 1C begins at 6pm with blinds increasing every 20 minutes. Each flight will play to ITM of 12.5% of the field.

Event 6: WPT Prime Cambodia 2.2K NLH Mini High Roller

Over at Event 6: WPT Prime Cambodia 2.2K Mini High Roller, the event drew a power lineup of 75 entries at US$ 2,200 each for a prize pool of US$ 145,500. Among the attendees was recent Triton SHR Vietnam Main Event runner up Michael Soyza who fired two bullets and still missed.

On the flip side, WPT Brand Ambassador Brad Owen – who is on his first visit to Cambodia – closed the day as chip leader with 19 players remaining. Filipino pro Mike Takayama bagged up a very close second, just 1 bb behind Owen.

The players return on Monday, March 13 at 1pm to chase down the first high roller title of the festival and the US$ 49,469 top prize. Making the cut were WPT Prime Cambodia Main Event champion David Erquiaga, Korea’s Seung Mook Jung, Malaysia’s Victor Chong, WPT Prime Gold Coast finalist Gary Lin, and WSOP bracelet winner Leo Soma.

The last event to wrap up was Event 7: Deepstack NLH with the 119 entry field trimmed to the final table of 9 players. Leading was Japan‘ Yu Ogusu with 37 bb. Running second was Australia’s Aroha Ngata with 26 bb. She eliminated Julius Umraziunas in 10th place to form the final table. To round out the top three in chips was Vietnam’s Le Ngoc Khanh who delivered the bubble. He bagged up 20 bb.

The nine remaining players return at 1pm on Monday, March 13. Each one is guaranteed $919 but all focus will be on turning their US$ 300 buy in into a larger US$ 9,196 payout.

WPT Prime Cambodia, in partnership withConnaissance Management, runs from March 9 to 21 atNagaWorld Integrated Resortsin Phnom Penh, Cambodia. A total of 30 tournaments are scheduled and US$ 1 Million in guarantees.

Last year, the Main Event set new heights for the brand with 1,050 turning up. At the time, it was the largest WPT Main Event for an open tournament. In prize money, it guaranteed half a million dollars which doubled up, closing at US$ 1,018,500. This year, the Main Event returns with the same guarantee with the goal of surpassing its previous turnout and possibly even set another new record. The number to beat is 1,224 which was set at the recently concluded WPT Prime Gold Coast.
