Chang Chia Wei wins Manila Super Series Warm Up

Taiwan’s Chang Chia Wei outduels Filipino Bryan Manalo at heads up to win the Manila Super Series 18 Warm Up event! Chang has been frequenting PokerStars LIVE Manila events since 2016. This was his career fifth spade trophy and single largest career score of PH₱ 515,000 (~US$ 9,065).

The 18th edition of the Manila Super Series is scheduled from September 18 to 24. 2023. The series opened with 525 entries in the Warm Up event for a guarantee-crushing prize pool of PH₱ 2,688,840 (~US$ 47,330). Day 1 closed with Ha Yoon Seung bagging the chip lead.

On Day 2, 79 players returned, everyone in the money. It took five and a half hours before the final table was formed. Filipino Faustino Alcantara was chip leader but could not take it any further than 8th place. Japan’s Michihiko Matsuda was most impressive, rising from 73rd rank with just 9 bb all the way to 6th place. Crowd favorite Mark Almusajin entered Day 2 with the third largest stack and stayed in the upper ranks all day to finish in a commendable 4th place.

Heads up between Bryan Manalo and Chang Chia Wei ran for two hours. Both players tugging at the chip lead. With blinds rising fast and average stack down to 19 bb, Chang pulled ahead and closed it out with Qc2c spiking the queen to dust Ac9d.
