The 5th biggest loser of the year 2016, Blom won US$217,000 from Cates in a heads-up match on Wednesday, after posting a prior win of US$109.300k  at the 8-Game tables against on Tuesday.  In frustration, Cates presumably half-joking chatted:

w00ki3z.: hope you die
w00ki3z.: scum
w00ki3z.: play later
Isildur1: hey

Another player who has started the year well is Russian pro Timofey “Trueteller” KuznetsoKuznetso has won US$300K in a span of 2 days playing 8-game tables mostly.

After the announcement of putting up his own online poker room which was a reaction to the changes happening on online client PokerStars and 888Poker.com, poker pro Phil Galfond gives an update on what’s happening with Run It Once (RIO) Poker.

In a long blog post, Galfond reminisced how RIO started with his long-time friend Dan who was the technical brains behind the room even way before the announcement was made.

He also shared the numerous support that overflowed after the announcement.  Initially he was overwhelmed with the expectations but his fantastic team of 15 people had grown into a 40-man team, of whom most were based in Malta.

The most important update, however, is the launch of the much awaited room. As Galfond wanted to create a room for poker players by poker players, he has apparently decided to start the design and the development of the platform instead of opting to just purchase existing software and re-branding it.

As such, he doesn’t see the initially planned launch of the room happening on the first Quarter of 2017.
